England Premier League
Saturday 6th May 2023
Kick off at 5:30pm BST
Venue: Anfield
Match Preview:
After a poor season, it is finishing strongly for Liverpool and they have had a brilliant week after winning 5 games in a row, and then seeing Manchester United just one place above them lose in midweek. The question is can Liverpool stage a remarkable comeback and qualify for next season's Champions League? On the evidence of the last few weeks they are going to give it an almighty try.
Liverpool will be tipped to beat Brentford at home and their last home game finished in victory over Fulham, it was only a narrow 1-0 win which took a Mohamed Salah penalty to settle matters but in truth the Reds have been on fire lately and are scoring goals. They put 4 past Tottenham, 3 past Nottingham Forest and six past Leeds. The difference to a top four place is only four points, however the team they are chasing, Manchester United have a one game advantage and Liverpool are still being seen as the outsiders to claim that final Champions League position.
Brentford have had a superb season by their standards and their aim will be to try and claim a Europa Conference League place and/or a top half finish as they come into this game in 10th place with 50 points. They are just four points from their objective and some poor form in April has been turned around as they have been able to go their last three games unbeaten. This includes a draw against Aston Villa and back to back wins against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest. However there will be some caution on the road given that only 19 of their 50 points have come on it, though the majority of their games have ended in draws with 7 so far. Recent away form has been a mixed bag with two defeats but they have still managed to pick up seven points. The Bees can not change position even with a win as they are 4 points behind 9th placed Aston Villa.
Team News:
Liverpool: Roberto Firmino is touch and go for this game because of a muscle injury which has kept him out of the last few games. Naby Keita remains a doubt with fitness issues. Thiago Alcantara has been ruled out for the season with a hip injury.
Brentford: Christian Norgaard is out with an Achilles injury, Thomas Strakosha has a calf injury and is also out. Keane Lewis-Potter and Pontus Jansson are both out for the season.
Liverpool vs Brentford Head to Head:
Last season Liverpool won this fixture 3-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Brentford won 3-1.
Liverpool have won 7 of the last 10 meetings.
Liverpool vs Brentford Prediction:
At 1.44 for the home win that may put many off but we can increase that at no extra risk by using a "-1 asian handicap". With Liverpool this season they have let down punters on many an occasion with some of their Jekyll and Hyde performances but we expect that they are on the right road now and will be looking to try and remain unbeaten until the end of the season.
Brentford have been solid and we expect them to play their part in this game but we also expect them to get overwhelmed too at Anfield and we can’t see the Bees getting much honey or luck from this game. There is good value in the goalscorers market too and we expect that the Reds will be able to get quite a few in this game.
Liverpool vs Brentford Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (-1 Liverpool) at 1.67
Anytime goalscorer: Cody Gakpo at 2.50
Darwin Nunez to score 2+ goals at 7.00
