Liverpool vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Match Preview:

The Premier League season started at the beginning of the month of course but for Liverpool it starts now, that has to be the clubs mindset coming into this game. Incredibly a team that have been one of the best in Europe have managed just 2 points from their first 9 and come into this weekend in 16th place and are yet to record a win.

First came two draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace respectively for Jurgen Klopp’s team then they had to face Manchester United last Monday, a United side who had also started poor. The Reds were backed as the favourites to win and why not giving that they had managed to score 9 goals without reply against the Red Devils in their two games played last season. But United rolled back the years and gave a passionate performance as they won 2-1 and claimed some street cred back after months of being a laughing stock and certainly being in the shadow of their great rival Liverpool. So now the pressure is on the Reds to deliver in this game. The worry for Liverpool isn’t that they lost against Manchester United away from home, but how they performed in it and the team really need to be on it for this home game which will be expected to be a win but also with a flurry of goals.

Bournemouth’s last trip in these parts of the world ended in a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester City, and it was respectfully an expected result. Because of their 2-0 win against Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the season Scott Parker’s side are actually above Liverpool and have one point more. However together with the City loss the club have also been beaten last weekend by Arsenal losing 3-0 at home, and none of this bodes well when taking on a club like Liverpool and at Anfield.

Team News:

Liverpool: Diogo Jota looks set to miss out with his on going recovery from a hamstring but he might be assessed for an update. Darwin Nunez is suspended for his second game in a row and misses out. Curtis Jones will be assessed after his muscle injury but remains a doubt. Naby Keita could be back after a slight knock, but Ibrahima Konate also with a knock is expected to miss out again. Joel Matip will be assessed after his groin injury and is touch and go to return. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago are out for extended periods both with hamstrings.

Bournemouth: Dominic Solanke will be assessed with an ankle injury and is touch and go for this game. Jamal Lowe could return from illness and will be assessed. Ryan Fredericks is about another week away from a return with his calf, David Brooks has fitness issues and looks certain to miss out again and Junior Stanilas is out for several weeks with a groin issue.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

The clubs have played each other 17 times and Liverpool have 13 wins.

The last time the teams played this fixture was 2 years ago and Liverpool won 2-1.

Bournemouth has just 1 victory over Liverpool which happened in 2016 but they have never won at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth Prediction:

There is a pressure on Liverpool for sure, but they should have little trouble to get their first win of the season here, any points dropped and the panic button will be pressed.

What we also have to consider is that Klopp will be calm before this game, let’s not forget that Liverpool’s rivals are not Arsenal who are currently top of the league but champions Manchester City and they dropped two points last weekend so only gained 1 point over the Reds, so that gap coming into this weekend is 5 points and that is what Liverpool will be thinking, with respect Arsenal are not being seen as the threat yet.

For Bournemouth the game plan will be to defend and focus without the ball and try and counter attack when possible but we are sure that manager Parker will be setting up his team to defend and go for a point. But it is seven goals conceded in the last two games for the club and we absolutely cannot see anything here but a victory for the home side. However Liverpool are huge odds on so we have to look into different markets.
