Liverpool vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 19th August 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

Liverpool will see a 1-1 result away to Chelsea last weekend as a good solid result and it’s no mean feat to get a point at Stamford Bridge in difficult circumstances when the other club has had so many changes and appointed Mauricio Pochettino as manager. For the Reds this season has to be getting back to their best and while the club did have a good home record last season overall the campaign was a poor one which lead to them not qualifying for the Champions League.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will be expected to win this game without too many problems, any other result would be seen as a setback and they should be able to pick up their first victory of the season. As for Bournemouth they drew 1-1 at home to West Ham in a game that suited a draw although the Cherries did have the bulk of possession. They will realise very quickly their underdog pricing for this game so we expect them to be highly defensive and full of concentration, the problem will be if they concede too early. Let’s face it some of the personnel has changed but the memory is still etched into what happened here last season when Liverpool ran out 9-0 winners, an incredible score line. So the project for this game for the Cherries is that they may expect to lose but lose respectfully, and the goal will obviously be to keep the score to a minimum.

Team News:

Liverpool: Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic are recovering from injuries but have some fitness issues, they have not been ruled out for a return and could be assessed.

Bournemouth: ALewis Cook is just 50/50 to make this game because of a recent hip injury. Dango Ouattara is out for at least a month with an ankle injury. Ryan Fredericks misses out again due to his calf, Lloyd Kelly looks set to miss out due to a knock. Alex Scott is out long term with a knee injury, Adam Smith has a muscle injury and Marcus Tavernier looks set to miss out again due to a knock.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

Last season in this fixture Liverpool won 9-0.

Bournemouth have never won at Anfield.

There is a 50% chance to see over 3.5 goals.

Liverpool have won 7 of the last 8 meetings.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth Prediction:

Liverpool are huge favourites to win this game and while we think they will have to dig deep for the win and be focused we see them having little troubles here. The Reds have been superb at home even last season and they have too many attacking options for Bournemouth not to concede a few.

There have been slight doubts on Mohamed Salah’s state of mind, is he angry with the club? Does he want a move away? A goal at the weekend will calm everyone’s nerves and we will be tipping him to be one of the scorers. Let’s concentrate on the goals market for this game. We should give the Cherries credit though of course and let’s remember in their last game with the Reds they did win 1-0, but that at home and as stated above they have never won a game at Liverpool.
