Liverpool vs Aston Villa: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

If only Liverpool had shown this type of form earlier in the season they would once again have been title challengers but this has been an odd and often poor season for the Reds by their standards, and one they will quickly want to forget. And yet of course there have been some incredible results and no one will forget their 7-0 battering of Manchester United and also the fact that despite a poor season they have a chance to finish in the top four.

The Reds will certainly need to win this game over Aston Villa and their form suggests that they will. Liverpool have won 7 of their last 10 games and won 23 points altogether from those games and would rank in 2nd place on form. They come into this weekend in fifth place and have 65 points and are one point behind Newcastle and Manchester United. The problem though is that they have played a game more. On Monday they made light work of relegation threatened Leicester winning that game 3-0 away from home and at home the Reds have the 2nd best record. So far they have been able to win 43 points from a possible 54 and it is clear that even in a poor season for them home games have not been the problem. It’s just one defeat here this season and Jurgen Klopp’s side have won their last 4 home games.

Aston Villa’s form has wobbled after their superb two month winning run but they are still well within a chance of finishing in a European spot. The club has 57 points, the same as Tottenham and while they may challenge the Londoners they look like falling well short of Brighton since they are a point ahead and have played two less games. It would feel bitterly disappointing for Unai Emery’s side not to claim a European place after their terrific exploits but at the same time playing Liverpool away is a tough ask. On the road Villa have been average, losing 8 games and winning six but recent form has not been too encouraging as they have gone their last three games without a win and we would have to go back to the beginning of April for their last win, which came against Leicester.

Team News:

Liverpool: Darwin Nunez has a toe injury although it isn’t thought to be too serious and he may be assessed for this game. Roberto Firmino is 50/50 to make this game due to a lack of match fitness. Naby Keita looks set to miss out again due to fitness.

Aston Villa: Philippe Coutinho has a knock and will be assessed; he is the only injury concern for the Villains.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa Prediction:

This is Liverpool’s last home game of the season and we think we will see a performance that sums up the club and it should be a strong one. The Reds know that they need to give absolutely everything and try to win their last 2 games of the season to give them a chance to play in the Champions League again next season and their form has been brilliant and nothing suggests that they won’t be able to find the win against a strong but possibly tiring Aston Villa side.

This fixture has a good history of goals and while the atmosphere at times could be tense as the fans know that their side need to get off to a positive start we believe they can and that could well produce a party atmosphere that the team can feed off. It hasn’t been a great season for the club but be sure Klopp and his team will want to put in a magnificent performance for their home fans and we expect to see that.
