Liverpool vs Aston Villa: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 3rd September 2023
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Anfield

Match Preview:

Liverpool will hope to keep up their solid start to the season as they host Aston Villa. The Reds started with a tough away fixture against Chelsea and drew 1-1 and since then have recorded back to back wins. Those came in a 3-1 home win over Bournemouth finally winning the game following a sluggish start and last weekend they came back from a goal down to beat Newcastle 2-1 away from home. Was it a statement win though? Although Darwin Nunez was brilliantly effective in scoring a brace Newcastle could have had five goals on another day and the game could have been put to bed early on. So like some other big clubs expected to do well this season the Reds have not fully impressed but they have had that killer instinct.

Aston Villa got off to a shocker losing 5-1 away to Newcastle but they have settled well since that and have been scoring goals themselves. That started by putting 4 past Everton in their following game as they won 4-0 and then they overcame Burnley away from home with a 3-1 win. 8 goals in three games isn’t a bad return but this is a big test for Villa this weekend, and they failed their first test on the opening weekend of the season. Unai Emery’s side would go past Liverpool with a win here.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Liverpool are yet to show their real selves and the potential they have in the team. Their attacking options for now remain solid and dangerous but this was unbalanced so to speak this week. The Saudi League have had a bid of £150m rejected by Liverpool for the services of Mohamed Salah. A transfer would seem like a shock and should by all means put shockwaves throughout the Premier League that one of the best players may be on their way out. Given that the window doesn’t close in Saudi Arabia until next week this story feels like a cloud over the club. We don’t think it will affect them though and in fact back Salah to get on the score sheet in what should be an entertaining game.

We expect Villa to play their part and in recent games even though their winning record has taken a blow over the Reds they tend to score against them and we will be backing both teams to get on the score sheet here. Liverpool at home remain very dangerous and how Villa perform on the road to the better sides is already in question for this season, so we will be backing the Reds to get maximum points.
