England Premier League
Sunday 4th October 2020
Kick off at 12noon BST
Venue: King Power Stadium
Match Preview:
It’s like 2016 all over again for Leicester as they come into this game on Sunday afternoon top of the league.
It has been a fantastic opening for the Foxes winning all 3 of their games so far, along with Liverpool and Everton they are the only teams to maintain a 100% record so far. The difference with Leicester is that they have scored many goals, 12 so far and that includes their historic 5-2 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad last weekend.
This is why Brendan Rodgers side will be rightly odds on to put West Ham to the sword when they clash at King Power Stadium. Leicester have played just once at home so far when they beat Burnley 4-2.
West Ham have already lost two games but they did beat Wolves and beat them well winning 4-0 last weekend. The result was unexpected and one has to wonder if it is what the club need to get them going this season. However keep in mind that a few days later and with a strong team the Hammers were knocked out of the Carabao Cup against Everton, losing 4-1.
West Ham most probably will not travel well away and this represents a very difficult game for them. They come into this match in 11th place which sounds decent but it is so early in the campaign that a loss here could see them slip down six or seven places.
Team News:
Leicester: Jonny Evans has a calf injury but could make this game and will be assessed. Demarai Gray has missed the last 10 days through illness but could return. Dennis Praet’s twisted knee isn’t as bad as once thought and he will be assessed. Jamie Vardy has a hip issue but it is thought to be minor and has a good chance of playing.
West Ham: Issa Diop is set to return after his Covid-19 illness. Ryan Fredericks is out until after the October internationals with a hamstring injury
Leicester vs West Ham Head to Head:
Last season Leicester won this fixture 4-1.
West Ham have not beaten Leicester in the league since 2018 going back 5 matches.
The last 4 meetings has seen both teams to score.
Leicester vs West Ham Prediction:
Every time West Ham have been up against it, and expected to lose they pull out a performance. The problem here is that in players minds do Leicester represent one of the big teams? Forget their form and league title in 2016, West Ham have upped their game evidenly when they have had to win matches against the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea in recent seasons. When the fixtures have looked like a nightmare last Christmas much as they do now. But Leicester simply aren’t regarded as a huge team and that could well back fire on the West Ham players.
David Moyes is expected to be back in the dug out for this game after recovering from Covid-19 symptons but will it make much difference? We feel and especially away from home that West Ham are going to get over run by mazy and pacy football, though be sure to check that Jamie Vardy gets the all clear to play, that is how important he is to Leicester.
