Match Preview:
What a brilliant week it has been for Leicester. They have reached the FA Cup final where they will play Chelsea, their first final since 1969. They have also witnessed West Ham and Chelsea drop points to stay behind them and even Liverpool, still a huge threat also dropped two points. Thursday night then presents itself with a chance to pull a few points clear again from the chasing pack.
Presently Leicester are in 3rd place with 56 points and a win over West Bromwich Albion would see them go 4 points clear of both Chelsea and West Ham with the same games played. The Foxes will be trying to avoid 3 consecutive losses in the league after recent defeats against Manchester City and West Ham. Recent home form has nosedived for the Foxes who have lost 3 of their last 5 games, they have won 7 games at home yet also lost seven, and quite fittingly then have the seventh best home record in the league. Their last victory at the King Power came over a month ago when they beat Sheffield United 5-0.
West Bromwich Albion are planning the great escape just when everybody thought they had run out of time. The Baggies who have struggled to win games all season come into this one having won back to back duels. First it was scoring 5 goals past Chelsea away from home in a 5-2 win and then putting Southampton to the sword in a 3-0 victory at home. In 29 games West Brom had scored 20 goals, in the last two they have scored 8 and the wonder of it all is that Sam Allardyce’s team are playing some very good attacking football, the belief is there, but can it continue in this midweek game?
With a win the Baggies would stay 19th but join Fulham on the same points and the target would be Burnley. Currently West Brom are 9 points behind safety with a game in hand. On the road it’s 1 win in the last four and only two victories so far this season but we shouldn’t read too much into that, because the clubs form and the way they have been playing has drastically changed for the better.
Team News:
Leicester: Wes Morgan is back in training after a long term back injury and he could make the final selection he will be assessed. Harvey Barnes is out long term with his knee injury.
West Bromwich Albion: Kyle Bartley could return from his calf injury and will be assessed ahead of the game. Ainsley Maitland-Niles has a knock but is expected to be fit for this game. Robert Snodgrass is 50/50 to make this game after his recent knee injury. Branislav Ivanovic is out long term with a hamstring injury.
Leicester vs West Brom Head to Head:
The last time the clubs played this fixture in the league was back in 2017 and the game ended 1-1.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Leicester won 3-0.
Leicester have scored 7 goals past West Bromwich Albion in the last two meetings.
It’s been six games since West Brom recorded victory over Leicester and that happened in 2016 when they won 2-1 at this ground.
Leicester vs West Brom Prediction:
A lot of questions will be asked of West Brom and we may witness one of the best Premier League games for some time as there is a lot riding on this. For Leicester it’s all about maintaining their hopes for a top four place and they will attack and take the risks. For West Brom it’s about their slim hopes of survival.
Leicester haven’t shown the best form but if they can keep compact and control the pace of the game they will be difficult to beat and they seem due for a win. The Southampton cup win would have been great for morale and we will back them to get the three points on Thursday. As for West Brom we can expect a good performance and they will have to dig deep, and we expect them to get on the score sheet and both teams to score looks like a solid choice to take also from this game.
