Venue: King Power Stadium
Match Preview:
To summarise Leicester’s season thus far would be to say that Brendan Rodgers side are playing good football but lacking the consistency of the past two seasons and that is why they come into this game after playing 18 games in 10th place. But the key is those 18 games and in some cases the Foxes have 4 games in hand over some teams above them and their position is not set in stone, a lot can change.
Leicester have been one of the teams most effected by the latest outbreak of Covid and they are yet to play a league game this year. The clubs last game in the Premier League was a memorable one and it was at home when they beat Liverpool winning that game 1-0. Their last game was 11 days ago when they knocked Watford out of the FA Cup winning that match 4-1 and again they were at home. In a way even with the lack of football in the past few weeks just being able to remain at home again means that the club will probably be well prepared for this game.
If Leicester can get the win they would move up one place to 9th and go past Brighton and we should note that the club have won their last 3 games in a row at home.
Tottenham are in sixth place but in a good position as like Leicester they have only played 18 games. The clubs objective of 4th is certainly on given that West Ham are currently in that position and have played a whopping 4 more games than them. A win for Tottenham would put them in 5th place and they would go past Arsenal. Talking of Arsenal, Tottenham were furious that their game with them at the weekend was postponed when Arsenal requested it to be so but Tottenham believed that the Gunners had enough players for the game. In the end the Premier League decided in Arsenal’s favour but at least with this midweek game it means that Tottenham like Leicester had a rest at the weekend.
Tottenham are unbeaten in the league under Antonio Conte though are finding it hard to consistently put victories together. The club haven’t played a league game since New Year’s day when a last minute injury time winner gave them a dramatic 1-0 win at Watford. While their league games have been frequently called off they were able to play their EFL Cup semi-final games against Chelsea and lost both matches 2-0 and 1-0. The club are unbeaten in their last 3 away games and haven’t lost on the road since October.
Team News:
Leicester: Daniel Amartey, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ndidi are on international duty. Jamie Vardy has been ruled out for two months with a hamstring injury. Boubakary Soumare should return after illness. Ricardo Pereira is out for another two weeks at least with a leg injury. Timothy Castagne will be assessed after his thigh injury and is being tipped to return for this match. Ryan Bertrand, Wesley Fofana and Jonny Evans are out long term.
Tottenham: Heung-Min Son is out for at least another two weeks due to a muscle injury, the same injury is also keeping out Eric Dier. Christian Romero is expected to miss out again but could be back in contention within the squad after recovering well from his hamstring injury.
Leicester vs Tottenham Head to Head:
Last season Tottenham won this fixture 4-2.
Leicester haven’t beaten Tottenham when at home since 2018.
There is a 70% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Leicester vs Tottenham Prediction:
Leicester are always going to miss Jamie Vardy’s presence and one has to wonder how rusty the club will be coming into this game. Tottenham will be physical and have pace and will be a real test for the Foxes. On their day Leicester have the players to beat Tottenham but we think the away side will be looking at the table and seeing West Ham losing their last game would have given them a lot of encouragement to go at it from the first whistle of this game.
The market is really open for this game which says it all, the bookmakers are not confident in how this game will fall. Tottenham have a decent recent record at Leicester and if they can score the first goal then maybe they can lay down the foundations for a good win. You get the sense the club will be raring to play some football after the late postponement of their weekend game also.
