Match Preview:
It’s been a disappointing week for Leicester who were dumped out of the Europa League as they lost 3-2 to Napoli. In the end the Foxes have finished 3rd in their group but are not out of Europe yet as they will now play in the Conference League.
Last weekend Leicester lost against Aston Villa and they haven’t won a game for three weeks. It is also just 1 victory in their last five and with the Foxes in 11th place it is fair to say that Brendan Rodgers side do not look capable of repeating their top 5 status from the past few seasons.
Newcastle finally won a game and it happened last weekend as they beat Burnley 1-0 at home. The win meant that Newcastle avoided coming into this weekend in last place and with 10 points Eddie Howe’s side are in 19th. Watford are giving the bottom three some hope, because of them it means that just a win could make any of the bottom three safe as there is just 3 points to 17th place.
Form is decent for the Magpies with just one defeat from their last five games and that came against Arsenal away from home. The problem for the club is that they are drawing too many games but the hope will be that with new manager Howe at the reigns the club will be able to turn around their fortunes.
With 3 points earned from a possible 21 Newcastle have the worst away record in the league although it is just one defeat from their last three on the road and we shouldn’t look too much into the Magpies overall away record now Howe is in charge.
Team News:
Leicester: Ricardo Pereira is expected to miss out again due to his hamstring injury. Justin James has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness he is 50/50 to make the squad though. Wesley Fofana has a leg injury and has missed the season so far but is due back in two-three weeks.
Newcastle: Elliot Anderson could be assessed after his recent knock. Ryan Fraser is expected to be fit for this game after his hamstring injury. Fabian Schar has recovered from his rib injury and is being tipped to be ready for this game.
Leicester vs Newcastle Head to Head:
Last season Newcastle won this fixture 4-2.
The last four meetings have all seen over 2.5 goals.
Leicester have won 4 of the last five meetings against Newcastle.
Leicester vs Newcastle Prediction:
Leicester will be the favourites to win this and recently they have the superior record over Newcastle but we shouldn’t forget that the Magpies will come into this game with a spring in their step after finally tasting victory this season.
Leicester have only shown small glimpses of their quality this season and have been really hit and miss and with this two horse race there seems to be a lot of value in backing Newcastle on the handicap.
Whilst Newcastle could rest and focus on this game Leicester had to travel to Italy and were involved in a titanic battle with Napoli which would have been energy zapping. Of course it is a risk to back the away side who let’s be clear have been poor this season but under Howe we have seen some moments that could be encouraging for the rest of their season and the value odds enable a pretty generous handicap considering recent form.
Leicester vs Newcastle Betting Tips:
