Leicester vs Newcastle
Friday 12th April 2019
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium
Match Preview:
The appointment of Brendan Rodgers has changed everything at Leicester who come into this game having won 4 games in a row. The Foxes are in 7th position but on form they would be a top 3 club and their objective now until the end of the season will be to maintain that place.
Rodgers has favoured his team to be very attacking at home, opting for a 4-1-4-1 away but reverting back to a 4-3-3 at home. Their last game ended in an easy 4-1 victory at Huddersfield and The Foxes last game at home finished in a 2-0 win over Bournemouth.
Newcastle look safe and yet nobody associated with the club will be saying that. Partly out of respect for the game but also because they have 35 points and are 7 points clear of 18th placed Cardiff. The problem is that The Magpies have played one more game. What would happen if Cardiff could make that extra game up with a win, suddenly being safe is reduced to 4 points. Having said that there are other teams in between and it would be a major shock if Newcastle did not survive this season.
A win of course would be welcome for Rafa Benitez’s men but at the same time that winning feeling has deserted the club with no victories in their last 3 games which includes losing back to back games coming into this encounter.
Newcastle’s last victory came at home to Everton in a 3-2 win and their last game was a 1-0 loss also at home against Crystal Palace. Away from home Newcastle have won just 2 games all season with 46% of their games ending in a draw. With just 12 goals scored away from home only Huddersfield, Fulham and Cardiff have a poorer record.
Team News:
Leicester: Marc Albrighton is 50/50 to make this game and may be assessed after a lack of match fitness since recovering from initial injury. He is the only doubt for the club
Newcastle: Florian Lejeune suffered a serious knee injury v Crystal Palace and has subsequently been ruled out for the season. It has also been confirmed that Sean Longstaff will be ruled out for the remainder of the season also with a knee injury

Leicester vs Newcastle Prediction:
This Friday night game has all of the markings of a typical classic Premier League game. Full of attacking play, end to end stuff and everything in between. Newcastle should be fine this season and will try and enjoy this game. At the same time Leicester will have more motivation and just look super confident in front of goal. The Foxes have scored 11 goals in their last four matches and Newcastle’s away form has been so poor that we should witness a solid home victory. We will back Leicester to get all three points.
We will also back Youri Tielemans to score for Leicester. Tielemans is a quality player loaned from Ligue 1 side Monaco who has fitted straight into the side and has adapted well to Rodgers philosophy. He scores goals and will be looking for his debut with the club, against a leaky defence he may find he has more opportunities and is a great value.
