Venue: King Power Stadium
Match Preview:
There are times this season where you could believe that this Leicester side are just as good as the one that stunned English football and won the league in 2016. Then again there have been times where you have shaken your head at some of the games the Foxes have dropped points in. However they come into this huge game in good form and have just beaten Tottenham in London with a very professional display, one that manager Brendan Rodgers has hailed. But what Leicester will we get on Boxing Day?
The Foxes have climbed into 2nd place after winning 3 of their last four games, have 27 points, and are only 4 behind Liverpool. However good Leicester have been this season one does have to question their home form where they have lost 4 from the seven games played. Their last home game ended in a 2-0 defeat against Everton but Leicester can remain a puzzling team, they have just beaten Tottenham and put 5 goals past Manchester City earlier in the season and yet lost at home to Fulham, it is why this game remains a very hard one for Rodgers team.
Manchester United just keep on racking up the wins and on form they would be top of the league. Though Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has come under criticism this season that will have to subside now and yet again he has been able to steer a stinking ship to safety. More than that, United are winning games and looking good for their wins too and last weekend they smashed an old rival Leeds United 6-2, in what was a rare home win for the Red Devils this season.
United have won their last 2 games and scored 9 goals in that time and will come here with respect for their opponent but also with a lot of swagger and confidence. They would go 2nd with a win as the year draws to a close. There isn’t a team better than United away from home and they have a 100% record. Their last away game ended in a 3-2 win over bottom club Sheffield United.
Team News:
Leicester: The only concern is for striker Jamie Vardy who felt a tight muscle but he is expected to be fine for this match.
Manchester United: Scott McTominay will face a late assessment with his groin injury but at this time it isn’t expected to be serious. Marcos Rojo’s on going problems have continued and he was on the verge of a comeback but now has a calf injury and will miss the next 3-4 weeks.
Leicester vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Last season Manchester United won this fixture 2-0.
Manchester United have won the last 4 league meetings in a row.
Leicester have not beaten Manchester United since 2014.
Leicester vs Man Utd Prediction:
Leicester do make it hard on themselves because they could win this game after such a display at Tottenham and are a very brilliant team on their day, and yet you get the feeling they could end up as 2nd best in this one. Having said that Manchester United will have to play in the Carabao Cup quarter finals in midweek and whilst Solskjaer might make some changes surely he will play some regulars in the hope of winning some silverware.
United though have a very good record over Leicester and their away form has been simply brilliant so far. It makes this match an intriguing one but perhaps we should really be looking into different markets, the goals market would be good given that these two clubs will find spaces and exploit each other and the market value is really open. This could well end up being one of the most entertaining games of the Boxing Day calendar.
