Leicester vs Man Utd: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 16th October 2021
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

Leicester have only shown glimpses this season of what has made them such a dangerous side over the past few seasons with Brendan Rodgers in charge and he will need his team to become more consistent over the coming weeks.

It hasn’t helped anyone at the club though that Rodgers was named as a possible new manager for Newcastle after they were taken over last week. Much might be media talk but the players would have still have read it, and even if Newcastle have to wait for now who knows if later in the season they won’t prize Rodgers away? For now of course he will be fully focused on Leicester and making the Foxes climb up the table.  They come into this game in 13th place with 8 points and have no wins in their last 4 matches, though their last two ended in draws. Home form really summarises their season so far with 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss.

Manchester United are actually doing well at this time though there are question marks over how well the club are playing giving the attack they now possess. But United are in 4th place and are just 2 points behind league leaders Chelsea, though in all competitions they have won just once in their last four games.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been on fire since re-joining the club but the sceptics are out in force and are asking the questions, of how United are going to win games if Ronaldo has a bad game or doesn’t score in the final minutes of one which he has already done so. Also as explained below United have some worrying injuries coming into this game.

Team News:

Leicester: Jonny Evans has a foot injury and is a doubt but could be assessed ahead of the game. Raphinha is not available due to international duty. Ndidi is out with his hamstring and isn’t due back for at least 4 weeks.

Manchester United: Harry Maguire has a calf injury, he is expected to miss this game but could be assessed. Raphael Varane is out with a thigh injury. Edinson Cavani and Fred are major doubts because of international games in South America this week. Marcus Rashford has recovered from injury but is lacking some match fitness, he will be assessed.

Leicester vs Man Utd Head to Head:

This fixture ended 2-2 last season.

It’s been 4 games since Manchester United beat Leicester which was at this stadium in 2020 as they won 2-0.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Leicester are attempting to win their 3rd game in a row against Manchester United.

Leicester vs Man Utd Prediction:

These games are never easy for Manchester United who have really had to dig deep in the past. Despite having players such as Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes and Ronaldo in their team it is difficult to call United favourites, is that a criticism on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tactics? The Norwegian has looked lost at sea sometimes this season and could be missing not only Varane in defence but also Maguire who will have a late test.

However Leicester are hardly setting the league alight and by their standards have been fairly average. But they will be raising their game here and can see the international break as a clean slate to try and be forceful at home again and make coming to the King Power Stadium a difficult proposition for other sides.

Solskjaer’s job is under threat there is no doubt about that and things may get worse before getting better, clearly there is a lot of work to be done at the club. It wouldn’t feel like a major surprise if they lost this one and we have to remember that they are in average form coming into this tricky away tie.
