Leicester vs Man Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 1st September 2022
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

After a couple of strong seasons in charge of Leicester where Brendan Rodgers oversaw finishing in 5th place for two seasons in a row the Foxes come into this clash bottom of the league with no wins after four games.

So far Rodgers side have only claimed one point which they achieved on the opening weekend of the season as they drew 2-2 at home to Brentford, even then the result was tinged by disappointment given that they were heading for victory. Since then it has been 3 defeats in a row against Arsenal, Southampton and Chelsea. It is of course so early in the season and having to play Arsenal, Chelsea and now Manchester United one could argue that the Foxes have not been dealt the best of fixture lists. At the same time the club have caused these teams problems in the past and so there is a worry that they could struggle this season. They are also conceding at least two goals per game so far and now face a rampant Manchester United side.

Manchester United have been taking up a lot of column inches since the start of the season and it has been mostly for the wrong reasons, however is that in the past now? Following a stunning 2-1 victory over Liverpool when the chips were down and the confidence was low United also beat Southampton and they have climbed up to 11th place. Inbetween then United have been busy in the transfer market and have bought Casemiro from Real Madrid and Antony from Ajax for a combined total of over £150m.

Team News:

Leicester: James Maddison has a muscle injury and will be assessed. Ricardo Pereira is out long term with his Achilles and Ryan Bertrand is also out for several weeks more with a knee injury.

Manchester United: Anthony Martial is nearing a return after recovering from his Achilles injury and he could make this game but will be assessed. Victor Lindelof is still missing with a thigh injury.

Leicester vs Man Utd Head to Head:

Last season Leicester won this fixture 4-2.

It’s been six games since Manchester United beat Leicester going back two years.

The last five games in a row has seen both teams to score.

Leicester vs Man Utd Prediction:

Manchester United are the favourites to win here even though there recent results against Leicester have been poor. But they are a great price and the momentum is certainly with the Red Devils. It will be interesting to see if Harry Maguire gets his place back in the side to face his former club, there are a lot of stories that can come out of this game but manager Ten Hag will want to have a boring story to report. What he needs is calm at the club and a solid but professional display, there has certainly been negative noise around United for some time now.

Leicester need to start from the beginning and whilst having to face United is not ideal, Rodgers does seem to know how to play them but at the same time confidence is not good at the club they just need that first win which hasn’t been forthcoming. United will have many attacks on goal and if they can score early this could be the right choice to back them. There are goals in the team but the jury may still be out if Ten Hag is the right person for the job but with the way United have been playing and the buzz throughout the side too we should be backing them to make it three wins out of three.
