Leicester vs Man City: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League

Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

Could other owners of Premier League clubs take stock of what has happened at Leicester? Manager Brendan Rodgers should have been sacked by now had we gone with the script after the Foxes poor start to the season, but Leicester’s board stuck with him, a manager who has done a good job at the club, and now they have found form. The Foxes who were bottom of the league a few weeks ago are now out of the relegation zone, have gone their last 3 games unbeaten, and won their last two in a row. It has been quite a turnaround.

Leicester have scored six goals and conceded zero in their last two games, beating Leeds 2-0 and Wolves 4-0, and even Jamie Vardy finally scored his first goal of the season, everything is back to being great at the club. So it is unfortunate that their next game will be against the champions.

Manchester City would go top of the league if they win here, being the lunch time game, and Arsenal do not play until Sunday, so there is a lot of incentive for Pep Guardiola’s side. In midweek City could only draw 0-0 away to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, even though they have already qualified for the knock out stages, they haven’t confirmed 1st place and perhaps an easier route to the quarter finals. It may be nitpicking but one could question City’s recent form which in all competitions has seen just one win in their last 4 games.

City’s last league game finished in a 3-1 win over Brighton but away from home the club haven’t always had it their own way and have won 8 points from a possible 15 and would rank in 5th place based on away form only. It’s also just 1 win on the road in their past four games.

Team News:

Leicester: Jonny Evans has recovered from his calf injury and will be assessed. Ndidi is being tipped to return from his hamstring injury. Ryan Bertarnd (knee) and Ricardo Pereira (Achilles) are out long term.

Manchester City: Erling Haaland is a doubt with a mixture of a knock, fever and fatigue and he may be rested. Kyle Walker is still out with a muscle injury and isn’t expected to be fit again for another 3 weeks. Kalvin Phillips has had surgery on his shoulder and an update suggests that the player could be back within 3 weeks much sooner than originally expected.

Leicester vs Man City Head to Head:

Last season Manchester City won this meeting 1-0.

Manchester City have won 7 of the last 10 meetings against Leicester.

The last time the clubs played each other was at the Etihad and Manchester City won 6-3.

Leicester vs Man City Prediction:

Manchester City should win this game and they will be expected too, but there is no value on them to do so. The club have not been playing well even if the mainstream media won’t admit to it. Instead they have had moments of brilliance which you can get with the very best teams, even Liverpool have shown it this season and yet have struggled. City can play much better than they have over the past three or so weeks and playing Leicester away with the new form that the Foxes have found is not easy. Of course City are the better side but this is a team who failed to beat Aston Villa on the road and while they have given Leicester some batterings over the years most of these have been at home and not away.

Leicester to win seems like a stretch but backing Rodgers side on the handicap could well be the way to go here. There are reports that Haaland could miss this game but even if he were City still have the players to get the job done, but Leicester have a new found confidence and they will get chances in this game, so the handicap market could well be the best value. As for goalscorers Riyad Mahrez has looked sharp lately and he will be up for scoring against his former side, plus if Haaland is injured he will like to get himself forward more, he is worth looking into.

Leicester vs Man City Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (+2.0 Leicester) at 1.63

Anytime goalscorer: Riyad Mahrez at 2.75
