Leicester vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 22nd February 2020
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

Manchester City are taking their two year European ban pretty well and in midweek they eased to a 2-0 win over West Ham. The club could have taken two roads and that was to feel sorry for themselves and lose focus or march on and believe that their appeal will be successful anyway as they try to finish as runners up in the Premier League.

Currently Pep Guardiola’s team are 4 points clear of 3rd placed Leicester and this is the game where they can make their claim for 2nd and go 7 points clear.

City are not in great form where they have won 2 games from their last four and earned 7 points from 12, not good for their usual standards anyway, and they are a huge 22 points behind Liverpool. Away from home City have the 2nd best record where they have won 25 points from a possible 39, though they have lost to Tottenham and Wolves in their last four trips.

Leicester could close the gap to 2nd to just 1 point but more importantly they have to keep an eye on the emerging pack of Chelsea, Tottenham, Sheffield United and Manchester United and with defeat here and a couple of games where they drop points that pack could be right next to them. They won’t want to lose 3rd place after all of their hard work.

Form is mixed in the fact that the Foxes have not lost a game in a month but they have drawn their last two, and they are currently 9 points clear of Chelsea. At home Brendan Rodgers side have only lost two games but recent home form has dipped to the point that they have just 1 win in their past five. Could fatigue finally be settling in with the club?

Team News:

Leicester: Hamza Choudhury is suspended for this game for his two yellow cards against Wolves. Ndidi still has his knee injury and looks set to miss the next few weeks at least.

Manchester City: Leroy Sane could make his long awaited comeback in this game and will be assessed. David Silva will face a late test as he has a minor muscle injury. Raheem Sterling is only 50/50 to be fit again after his hamstring injury earlier this month.

Leicester vs Man City Head to Head:

Last season Leicester won this fixture 2-1.

Manchester City have only won 1 game from the last four played at Leicester.

There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Leicester vs Man City Prediction:

Leicester will be difficult opponents but it feels as if City have signed two new players if indeed Sane is available to play given that Aymeric Laporte is now back in the team. There are fresh legs in this City team and the club will want to finish the season on a high. They do have a very important game in the Champions League next week v Real Madrid and one wonders why this wasn’t the early kick off or at least the 3pm game? But Guardiola has proven time and again that he rarely drops his big players and we should see a big game for the club, maybe some redemption in their eyes. What we do know is that Leicester have been fantastic this season but just come up short at home to some of the quality teams, namely Liverpool and they even drew recently v Chelsea.
