England Premier League
Thursday 26th December 2019
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: King Power Stadium
Match Preview:
What a fantastic game we have in store for Boxing Day evening when 1st place meets 2nd.
Leicester have had a superb season so far and nobody expected the club to be in 2nd place at this stage. The problem for them is that they are 10 points behind Liverpool, drop points here and Leicester should consider that any slim title chances are over.
The Foxes have been in great form but have slipped up recently, first drawing against Norwich at home and then losing 3-1 to Manchester City brought the club back down to earth, and there is a chance they could give up 2nd place to City if they don’t win here. Leicester will have to become the first team this season to beat Liverpool, and their last meeting will be fresh in their minds. At Anfield Leicester played very well and the game looked like it would at least finish in a draw but they lost out in the end to what looked like a dubious penalty. At home can they take their revenge?
At King Power Stadium Leicester have been excellent and have won 23 points from a possible 27 and remain unbeaten here winning 7 and drawing 2. They have conceded just 5 goals here all season.
Liverpool had a rest from Premier League duties as they played in the Club World Cup. They beat Flamengo 1-0 in the final to win, so their confidence and winning attitude has continued. Even without playing the club gained in the league because City beat Leicester and that means that Liverpool not only have a 10 point lead but also a game in hand, in theory they could go 13 points clear.
The Reds are unbeaten this season and have the best away record in the league gaining 22 points from 24. They have conceded just 5 goals and are scoring 2 goals a game on average on the road. Liverpool will be attempting to go 18 games unbeaten this season.
Team News:
Leicester: Harvey Barnes could return after a minor ankle injury. There are no other injury concerns for the Foxes.
Liverpool: The only new injury concern for the Reds could be with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who picked up an ankle injury in the match v Flamengo it is thought not to be serious though
Leicester vs Liverpool Head to Head:
Last season Liverpool won this game 2-1.
The last 5 meetings have seen both teams to score.
It has been 6 matches since Leicester beat Liverpool.
There is a 60% chance to see over 2,5 goals.
Leicester vs Liverpool Prediction:
This will feel like another final for Liverpool and in truth the club could lose this match and seemingly still ease to the league title such is their advantage. At the same time it is obvious that they would love to go the entire season unbeaten and the team will be up for this game no doubt. Leicester at their very best will be tough opposition but there is no doubt that the club have dipped a little. A loss here could really hurt the club for the next few weeks and yet a win will inject so much confidence and of course may fire up Manchester City to try and challenge Liverpool too. This will be a difficult match for Liverpool and such an important one for them too, it may feel like a one off cup final, and it just seems hard to go against a side who are unbeaten, have a better team than their opponents and seem to have lost the ability to lose games.
