Leicester vs Liverpool: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 13th February 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

It feels like Liverpool have been rocked to their foundations and everything that was good and positive and fearful about the club has evaporated. It is very unlikely that the Reds will successfully defend their title as they have slipped 10 points behind Manchester City and have played a game more than Pep Guardiola’s side. It is more likely at this stage that Liverpool will be battling to finish in the top four. This game against a top 4 rival is of high importance to the club.

Liverpool have picked up just 6 points from their last 5 games but more tellingly just 12 points from their last 30 on offer. Here is a club where we are used to seeing them get 23 plus points for every 30 available and on current form the club would be down in 12th place.

With victory Liverpool would replace Leicester in 3rd place on goal difference and the team are aiming to try and not lose 3 consecutive games. Liverpool’s most common result away from home is the draw where they have achieved that feat 5 times from 11 games although with wins against West Ham and Tottenham they come into this match having won their last 2 on the road.

Leicester could push forward and at least for a short time occupy 2nd positon with victory at home. It would be a huge win for the Foxes who could pull six points clear of Liverpool. Form hasn’t been terrible for Brendan Rodgers side but they have only managed one victory in their last four games. Leicester had to play in midweek in the FA Cup and they won 1-0 against Brighton so should be in good spirits for this game but at the same time that’s an extra game when Liverpool could rest.

One worry for Leicester is that their home form has hardly been convincing with 5 wins but also 5 losses and it is worth noting that the clubs last home league game ended in a 3-1 defeat against Leeds.

Team News:

Leicester: Ayoze Perez is a doubt as he has a knock and will be assessed. Timothy Castagne is not due back for at least 10 days with his hamstring injury.

Liverpool: The club have no new injuries but Joel Matip has been confirmed to be ruled out for the season and there are long term injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joseph Gomez and Naby Keita.

Leicester vs Liverpool Head to Head:

Earlier in the season Liverpool beat Leicester 3-0.

Liverpool have won the last 3 league meetings in a row.

Leicester have not won at home against Liverpool since 2017 when they beat them  3-1.

There is an 80% chance to see both teams to score, though this hasn’t happened in their sides last two league meetings.

Leicester vs Liverpool Prediction:

We seemingly say this every week about Liverpool but this is a must win game and Liverpool have to turn their form around. The league title looks gone unless Manchester City go on a similar run that Liverpool are experiencing. But now there are even doubts about a top 4 finish and that is genuine giving that there are 5 other clubs within touching distance of the Reds.

This is a tough fixture for Liverpool but they will be lifted by the fact that their performances against Leicester in recent times have been very good and that they have won their last two away games. Some times clubs need wake up calls and the 4-1 loss at home against Manchester City may be it.

Leicester can win this game if they stick to their game plan and they will be very dangerous but they have come up short against Liverpool on more than a few occasions. Form of the two sides may say the home team will win but we feel this game could go either way and it may be better to focus on the goals markets. Roberto Firmino has scored 3 goals against Leicester in their last two meetings.

Leicester vs Liverpool Betting Tips:

Anytime goalscorer: Roberto Firmino at 3.25

Both teams to score at 1.61

Total goals (Over 2.5) at 1.80
