England Premier League
Sunday 31st January 2021
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: King Power Stadium
Match Preview:
Leicester are in 3rd place and by the time they have played they could have slipped 5 points behind Manchester City so a win is really important to keep up momentum.
The Foxes played well at Everton especially when they went a goal behind and came away from that match with a 1-1 draw. Leicester have been in good form overall and have lost just one game from their last 10.
Home form could be better when we look at the clubs position in the league and whilst they have won 50% of their games, losing 4 at home from 10 matches played is quite a lot. Though Brendan Rodgers side are unbeaten in their last 3 home matches, which includes claiming a draw over Manchester United, and beating Southampton and Chelsea.
Leeds are up to 12th and have 26 points and are trailing their hosts by 13 points. Leeds should be fine this season for survival and that had to be the clubs main objective this season. They shrugged off losing back to back games by beating Newcastle 2-1 in midweek away from home and that was a huge result for the club.
It’s apt that Leeds have earned 15 points from their last 30 as it sums up their season so far which has been good but average. But surely deep down manager Marcelo Bielsea must be thrilled by how the club have been playing, being back in such a tough top flight of European football.
Leeds have actually earned more points away from home (15) than at home (11) and have won 50% of their games and lost 50%. They have yet to draw on the road.
Team News:
Leicester: Jamie Vardy is out for at least another week due to his hernia operation. Ndidi has a hamstring injury and is set to miss the next 2 weeks. Dennis Praet is out until April with a muscle injury and Wes Morgan is not due back for two weeks for unknown reasons.
Leeds: Diego Llorente has been ruled out for 3-4 weeks due to a muscle injury. He is the only new injury concern for the club.
Leicester vs Leeds Head to Head:
The clubs have not played each other at Leicester since 2017 which was in the cup and Leicester won 3-1.
Earlier this season in the reverse fixture Leicester won 4-1.
Leeds have not beaten Leicester since 2012 although the clubs have played just five times since then.
Leicester vs Leeds Prediction:
Leeds are a good team to play for Leicester’s style much like how Manchester United enjoyed playing them a few months back and scored 6 past them. Leicester will be relentless and have plenty of the ball but it will be a blow to them to have both Vardy and Ndidi out.
Leeds will feel comfortable where they are in the table and there is no pressure at all on the club, so this is a game which could be a learning exercise, and they also can’t be discounted from it. But Leeds should play into Leicester’s game, they can’t help it and Leicester have scored many goals against Leeds in their last few games. Being at home will help Leicester too even if there are no fans and we can only see one winner here. Keep an eye out for Youri Tielemans who scored in midweek against Everton and also scored a brace in the clubs early fixture with Leeds this season. With Vardy out he may fancy his chances to come forward again.
