Leicester vs Leeds: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 20th October 2022
Kick off at 8:15pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

It was another weekend where Leicester failed to win however they didn’t lose as they played out a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. But the Foxes are back at the bottom of the Premier League with just 5 points from their opening 10 games. The major surprise is that Brendan Rodgers is still in charge however perhaps that is refreshing in a league that is so quick to chop and change at the merest hint of poor form.

Leicester have lost 70% of their games so far, keep this up and they will be relegated for sure but they have earned 4 points from their last 9 and perhaps their form and luck will change. All of the clubs points have been won at home and they have managed to go their last two games unbeaten here.

Leeds are in 15th place and are four points clear of Leicester and after a bright start the club look to be in free fall. It’s five games without a win and just 2 points earned from their last 15 and they have lost their last two coming into this one. While form has been poor they almost got a point against the league leaders Arsenal this past weekend and only lost the game 1-0. On the road it’s bad news with no wins as of yet and just 1 point won from a possible 12, they are also conceding an average of two goals per game.

Team News:

Leicester: Jonny Evans and Ndidi won’t return for at least another 10 days from their respective calf and hamstring injuries. Caglar Soyuncu is out with a knee injury, Ricardo Pereira is out for at least 3 months due to his Achilles. Ryan Bertrand is out long term with a knee injury.

Leeds: Archie Gray is 50/50 to return after his toe injury, Leo Fuhr Hjelde could be assessed after recovering from his muscle injury but remains a doubt to be ready. Adam Forshaw is out until the end of the month with his ankle and Stuart Dallas won’t return until the end of the year because of his leg injury.

Leicester vs Leeds Head to Head:

Last season Leicester won this fixture 1-0.

In the last 8 meetings Leeds have only beaten Leicester once.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Leicester vs Leeds Prediction:

Both sides come into this game with confidence issues. For Leicester their form is slightly better than Leeds and being at home with the crowd behind them should be a major plus. It seems clear that there is many at the club that recognise that Rodgers is going through a tough moment and don’t want him sacked. But his players must push for him and start getting results in more consistently. Leeds seem to have reached a limit as to where they can go with manager Jesse Marsch. He has shown hints that his hard work behind the scenes is reaping better consistent football but that looks to be undone now and we are so early into the new season, so that looks to be a worry for him.

In a sense Leicester and Leeds have the same problem in that they both have two very good centre forwards who are not scoring goals in Jamie Vardy and Patrick Bamford, perhaps with the teams playing each other we will witness a goal from them here, the value is good so we will go with that, though obvious caution should be applied with their form in mind. Because they are a good price and have shown better form lately at home we will back the Foxes to get the win here with the draw covered on the refund, they still look like a team who shouldn’t really be at the bottom, but they are running out of time to prove it where it matters on the pitch.
