England Premier League
Monday 26th April 2021
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium
Match Preview:
This game on Monday night for Leicester is all about taking advantage of the situations that arose this past weekend. West Ham and Liverpool dropped points in the race for the top four and Leicester can make huge strides now to securing a top four finish if they can win this game.
Leicester are in 3rd place with 59 points and Chelsea are only a point behind but the Foxes with a win would put out a gap of 7 points to 5th place with five games left to play. Leicester’s form has been good with 3 wins from their last five although they have recently lost two games against Manchester City and West Ham. In midweek the Foxes got everything right though as they cruised past West Bromwich Albion winning that encounter 3-0. The club will be very happy to remain at home and they should be in good spirits for this clash.
Crystal Palace are in 13th place with 38 points and they have no hope of European football for next season, that’s the bad news, the good news is that they are 11 points in front of the bottom three and will be safe this season. The Eagles haven’t played for two weeks because of the way the fixtures have fallen, and they will be raring to go to wipe out the memory of their last game, which was a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea.
Form for Palace has not been good with just 1 win in their past five and whilst they remain a solid and stubborn side, and difficult to beat on their day, it seems that some of the players have lost a bit of motivation. In other words Palace’s season is well and truly over.
Away from home Roy Hodgson’s side has managed 5 wins but also lost seven times and they haven’t won a game on the road since beating Brighton 2 months ago. Because of goal difference victory on Monday evening would not move Palace up any places but it would mean that they join Wolves on the same points.
Team News:
Leicester: Wes Morgan has some fitness issues he could be assessed but is expected to miss out after a long term back injury. Harvey Barnes is out for the season with a knee injury.
Crystal Palace: Gary Cahill has a knock but is expected to be fine for this match. Nathan Ferguson has a lack of match fitness and will be assessed. James MacArthur is out with an ongoing calf injury. Connor Wickham has recovered from injury but has a lack of match fitness and looks set to miss this trip.
Leicester vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:
Last season Leicester won this fixture 3-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture the game finished 1-1.
Crystal Palace have won 2 of the last three games to take at Leicester.
There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Leicester vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
We have seen this week a few teams who have had mini cup finals, like Burnley turning over Wolves 4-0 and Chelsea stepping up to beat a difficult West Ham side as they try and finish in the top four. Leicester still carry the pain of missing out on a Champions League place late last season and though this game will not confirm their participation in the competition it will put one foot in the door.
Leicester are in a good moment and it was important how well the club started against West Bromwich Albion who were in form themselves, Leicester found 3 goals in the first 45 minutes. We expect them to come out of the blocks and try and control this game as soon as possible, and a win looks likely. It was also nice to see Jamie Vardy score in midweek, he has had a poor 2021 so far and a goal for a striker after such time usually follows up with another.
