Leicester vs Crystal Palace: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 15th October 2022
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

In some ways perhaps the Leicester board should be praised for not yet sacking Brendan Rodgers. It would have been the easy thing to do as we’ve seen a few sacked now in the Premier League, but they have kept with him even though the return is seven defeats from 9 games played and just one win. It is no surprise therefore to glance at the table and see that the Foxes are bottom of the league. While the board have been patient it may well run out this weekend as Leicester undertake their 10th game of the season, and being at home there will be an expectation that the team should pick up all three points.

There isn’t much good news to be had at Leicester but they did win their last game at King Power beating Nottingham Forest 4-0. With 18th place playing 19th this weekend if they draw and Leicester win then the Foxes despite their horrid start would actually move up two places.

Crystal Palace have played some good football but they have dropped too may points from good positions and have won just twice so far. The Eagles come into this weekend in 15th place and with 9 points they are five clear of their hosts. Palace’s second win of the season did come in their last game which was a 2-1 victory over Leeds. The bad news for Patrick Vieira’s side is no wins on the road so far but they have been able to go to Liverpool and Newcastle and force draws which should be commended. Make no mistake all of the pressure for now is on Rodgers and they have, at least on paper, a very tough game ahead.

Team News:

Leicester: Jonny Evans will be assessed as he has a niggling calf issue. Nampalys Mendy has recovered from his knee injury and is expected to take some part. Dennis Praet will be assessed after a recent knock. Ndidi is still 2 weeks away with his hamstring. Ricardo Pereira and Ryan Bertrand are out long term.

Crystal Palace: Nathaniel Clyne is out with an ankle injury. Jack Butland and Nathan Ferguson are major doubts through a lack of match fitness. Chris Richards has a knock and will be assessed.

Leicester vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

It’s been 7 games since Palace managed to beat the Foxes, going back to 2019.

The last four meetings in a row have seen both teams to score,

Leicester vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

Leicester haven’t been with it this season and the worry is that apart from one game they have looked beatable in the rest. After beating Forest one would have expected the Foxes to march on, their next game was against Bournemouth a club with their own problems. Indeed the worry is that in that game Leicester took the lead and yet lost 2-1. Another worry is the apparent decline of Jamie Vardy, still yet to score and looking woefully out of form, has time caught up with him?

This feels like the last roll of the dice for Rodgers, and while Palace remain a danger at home the Foxes should create chances, the problem is if Palace take the lead will Leicester’s confidence issues rise up again? We will back the away side to get something from this game because whilst they haven't won on the road, their only loss was to Man City, and they were able to draw against Newcastle and Liverpool who are both stronger than Leicester.
