Leicester vs Crystal Palace: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 10th April 2022
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

Brendan Rodgers has announced that he will be chopping and changing his team to how he likes as he realises that Leicester can only go so far this season and will likely miss out on a European finish. The reason for trying to be tactically nous is because the Foxes are still in the Europa Conference League. In midweek they could only draw 0-0 at home to PSV but it is a tie still very much open and the focus will be to try and reach the semi-finals of that competition.

As for the Premier League Leicester are in 10th place but are 14 points shy of a European finish although they do have 2 games in hand over some of their rivals, three games over West Ham and even 4 over Wolves. Games in hand can look beneficial but you have to win them and with so many other teams in between it looks unrealistic that Leicester will finish the season that strong and consistent.

Crystal Palace are in 9th place and they have the same points as their hosts. Palace are in good form and have not lost a game since February 19th when they played Chelsea. Palace will also have their focus elsewhere as next week they will play Chelsea in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Returning to Wembley is a huge moment for the Eagles so one could expect that players will not want to get injured just before such a big game.

Patrick Vieira has done a great job at Palace considering this is his first season as a manager in English football and in their last game his side beat his former club side Arsenal 3-0. Victory here would see Palace stay in 9th place given that there is a 12 point gap to 8th.

Team News:

Leicester: Perez could return from illness but will have to be assessed first. Boubakary Soumare has a knock and is being tipped to return. There is no return date scheduled for Jamie Vardy with his knee injury, he was making good progress but has some pains still. Danny Ward also has a knee injury and looks likely not to return until May. Ndidi and Ryan Bertrand both knee are out for the season.

Crystal Palace: Nathan Ferguson has a lack of match fitness and has been ruled out of this game. Michael Olise is back in training after his foot injury but will have to be assessed.

Leicester vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

Palace are in very good form and they have a manger who remains content but serious. Obviously the big game coming up for them is the FA Cup semi-final next weekend against Chelsea but that is a week away and they will absolutely want to keep that winning feeling and get a result here. Palace have struggled against Leicester in recent seasons though.

As for Leicester they have their European game to focus on and in the league if we are being fair their season ended some time ago. They are a team handicapped by the fact that Jamie Vardy remains out and even their manager is now hinting that he can’t play his strongest side week in and week out. The Foxes recent home form has been good with two wins in a row and they have remained unbeaten for their last four outings. Our pick here is to see the draw at full time. It is risky but if we think about these two teams they will play hard and we could see a physical game but at the end of the day they both have bigger fish to fry and this match may be just about getting from A to B.
