England Premier League
Saturday 11th March 2023
Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: King Power Stadium
Match Preview:
Having almost looked like they had found form and a way out of a relegation struggle Leicester are back in one and even though they are in 15th place there is only a difference of two points to the bottom three. The Foxes have lost their last 3 games and have now lost 15 games and only one side in Southampton has lost more.
It really could work either way for Leicester this weekend because a win could see them climb up to 12th place depending on other results around them and while they are at home this will indeed be a very tricky fixture against one of the traditional big six sides in Chelsea. So far the Foxes have won just 3 games at home and lost 50% of their matches here and picked up four points from their last three games at King Power Stadium.
Chelsea have been poor this season by their standards and the pressure has really been ramped up for manager Graham Potter. However the Blues have won their last two games in all competitions. First they got a vital win at home against Leeds although it was a narrow 1-0 win. They followed that up by qualifying for the quarter finals of the Champions League as they beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 in the 2nd leg of their round of 16 match and won 2-1 on aggregate. After beating a quality side like Dortmund Potter will be hoping that is the perfect tonic to get his talented but under achieving team back on track, we will see.
Team News:
Leicester: Harvey Barnes is a doubt with an ankle injury and will be assessed, Jonny Evans looks set to miss out again with fitness issues and it’s the same case for Ryan Bertrand. Youri Tielemans is out for at least 4 weeks due to an ankle injury and Victor Kristiansen is also out with an ankle injury but could return in 3 weeks.
Chelsea: N’Golo Kante could be assessed and the French international has finally recovered from a lengthy injury but understandibly has some fitness concerns and isn’t sure to be selected in the squad. Mason Mount looks set to miss out again due to a muscle injury. Cesar Azipilicueta is out with a head injury and Edouard Mendy is still sidelined with a hand injury.
Leicester vs Chelsea Head to Head:
Last season Chelsea won this fixture 3-0.
Chelsea have won 3 of the last four meetings with the other game ending in a draw and it’s been 2 years since Leicester beat Chelsea in the league.
3 from the last four meetings has seen both teams to score.
Leicester vs Chelsea Prediction:
If Chelsea are going to start to find some consistency they must address their away form. They have already lost 50% of their games on the road and won just 3 so far. The Blues have no wins away from home this year which is a huge worry for a club who have aspirations of finishing in the top four. Though Chelsea have had poor seasons before we can think back to 2015/16 when as champions they struggled in midtable, in general the Blues have been either winning titles or being a regular top four side so 10th place in March was not in the script for this season. Chelsea’s objective of 4th place is 8 points away and it looks like a stretch now to think they can make it, however consistency is key to making that change. But a Europa League finish looks more of a real prospect.
Chelsea are a very good price to win the game when you consider the quality they have but there is a reason for that and it doesn’t just come down to the fact they are away from home. Chelsea have been under performing for far too long but the good news is their last two games both victories and perhaps this is a turning point? The worry of course is that the two wins both came at home but they do have a very good recent record over Leicester and we will back them to win this one too.
