England Premier League
Sunday 13th December 2020
Kick off at 7:15pm GMT
Venue: King Power Stadium
Match Preview:
So far this season Leicester have been promising and good but they haven’t showed that extra mettle, the strength that saw the club win the Premier League in 2016, and you get the feeling that for every step Brendan Rodgers and Leicester have taken forward, they are going back another one.
That isn’t to be too harsh on the Foxes because they have recorded some brilliant wins this season and come into this game in 4th place and only three points from the top. But you get the feeling that they have dropped points against opponents that you would expect them to beat and maybe just a little more consistency would in fact see Leicester in 1st place and with a healthy lead.
Last weekend it was that man Jamie Vardy again who scored a last minute goal to claim all three points against Sheffield United. It was a good win given that the Foxes had come into that match having lost their last two in a row. One of those was against Liverpool and could be expected, the other was at home to Fulham in what was arguably Leicester’s most disappointing game of their campaign so far.
At home Leicester have won just twice from five games and recent form is not good with 3 defeats from their last four.
Brighton lost their 5th game of the season last weekend going down at home to Southampton 2-1. This followed an encouraging result as they drew 1-1 with Liverpool, but this recent loss seemed to blank that result out. The defeat against the Saints was unfortunate as it was the clubs first in 3 games and they seemed to be making headways as they try to avoid dropping into the bottom three,
Graham Potter’s side come into this match in 16th place and are four points clear of the bottom three and away from home they have lost 2 of their five games.
Team News:
Leicester: Ricardo Pereira’s update on his groin means that he won’t return until the Christmas period of matches. Timothy Castagne won’t be back for another week and Daniel Amartey is still struggling with fitness and is a major doubt for this game.
Brighton: Alexis McAllister will be assessed ahead of the game, Adam Lallana isn’t expected back until next week with his groin. Davy Propper could return after illness and will face a late test.
Leicester vs Brighton Head to Head:
Last season this fixture ended 0-0.
Brighton have not won at Leicester since 2014.
5 from the last six meetings has seen under 2.5 goals.
Leicester vs Brighton Prediction:
On paper Leicester should win and score 2 or 3 goals but football isn’t always that simple and Brighton can give the Foxes a hard game here.
By the time this match is played Leicester will have a good overview of the league and how it has played out and depending on results they could go 2nd. But winning these types of games is key if Leicester want to be playing in the Champions League next season.
Brighton have shown enough spirit in recent weeks to suggest that they will have chances in this game and if Leicester are not at 100% Brighton could steal the points, we really expect a close game, but are still tipping the home side to get the job done.
