Leicester vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 20th March 2022
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

While Leciester’s season continues to be average compared to their last few seasons they are performing well in European competition and have reached the quarter finals of the Europa Conference League. The Foxes lost their 2nd leg match at Rennes but won 3-2 on aggregate and they will play PSV in the next round.

Continuing to be in Europe should be a healthy boost for Brendan Rodgers side and one would think it would give an extra spring to their football coming into this weekend. Leicester will certainly not be playing European football unless they win this competition as they have fallen a huge 15 points behind that target. However the Foxes who are currently in 12th place have 3 games in hand over most of their direct rivals above them and so can still have a strong showing as we reach the final hurdles of this Premier League campaign. Recent wins over Burnley and Leeds hinted at some consistency which has been lacking this season but the club then lost 2-0 at Arsenal.

Brentford look safe, of course they are not out of the woods but have pulled 8 points clear of the bottom three after winning back to back games. Football is more about just one player but there has certainly been attention driven to the club after Christian Eriksen’s stunning return to football with them. Eriksen assisted in Brentford’s first goal five minutes from time in their victory over Burnley and for now his success story is on track and it has been a remarkable one from him. So the Bees come into this game having won their last two. The club also has a game in hand over Leeds just below them and this would be a huge victory for the club. A win would also put them on the same points as their hosts.

Team News:

Leicester: Marc Albrighton is a doubt with a groin strain and is rated at only 50/50 to make the final cut. Timothy Castagne is being pencilled in to return for this game but is also only 50/50 to do so and has a lack of match fitness. Patson Daka is ruled out through illness. Jonny Evans is touch and go because of fitness issues, Ryan Bertrand is out long term with a knee injury. Ndidi won’t return for another two weeks at least due to a knee injury. Danny Ward is out for a possible two months with a knee injury. Caglar Soyuncu should play after recovering from illness and Jamie Vardy is ruled out and won’t return for another two weeks due to a knee injury.

Brentford: Josh Da Silva is serving his final game of his suspension and so misses this one. There are no injuries for the club ahead of this game.

Leicester vs Brentford Head to Head:

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Leicester won 2-1.

Leicester have won the last 4 meetings in a row and are unbeaten in the last 9 games against Brentford.

Brentford have not beaten Leicester in any game since 1953.

Leicester vs Brentford Prediction:

The bottom line is that Brentford like most Premier League clubs have not played against Leicester too many times in recent years. Their record coming into this game is poor against the Foxes. But this is the here and now and because we do not have a plethora of games, history and patterns to draw on we should ignore the h2h between the two sides.

The present tells us that Leicester need a few points to feel comfortable in the Premier League and they really have to put all of their eggs in the Conference League now. What we also know is that Leicester have a mounting injury list and Brentford are in good form.

We expect to see an open game given that both sides are relatively safe and some risks will be taken but that hopefully will give the spectators a very entertaining game of football. Leicester at home will be the favourites to win this and we will back them to do just that.
