Leicester vs Bournemouth: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 8th April 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

Such has been the falling of the axe this season that both of these clubs have lost their managers that they started with, but what a huge six pointer this will be as both clubs try to stave off relegation.

Leicester of course are still getting over Brendan Rodgers departure, the official line is that it was a mutual agreement between him and the owners and for now they are looking for a permanent replacement. Leicester could become the first champions to be relegated since Blackburn Rovers but it is so close down there that two wins can make all the difference. The Foxes lost in midweek against in form Aston Villa going down 2-1, and that game seemed to be heading for a draw. They come into this game in 19th place knowing that victory could well take them out of the bottom three.

Bournemouth are in 18th and two points clear of their hosts, recent form has seen three defeats from their last five but they have recorded wins over Liverpool and Fulham in recent times, the catch perhaps is that both of those victories were at home. On the road tells a different story with just two wins so far and 10 defeats from 14. The Cherries have managed just 12 goals and are almost conceding on average 3 goals per game.

Team News:

Leicester: Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is suspended for this game for his sending off in midweek. Ryan Bertrand looks set to miss out again with a lack of match fitness, Youri Tielemans remains sidelined with an ankle injury and no fixed return date scheduled.

Bournemouth: Marcos Sensi has a minor hamstring injury which isn’t thought to be serious although he will be assessed. Ryan Fredericks is out with a calf injury.

Leicester vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

The clubs haven’t played this fixture at Leicester since 2019 in which the Foxes ran out 3-1 winners.

Bournemouth have won the last 2 meeting in row, scoring six goals in the process.

It’s been almost 25 years since Bournemouth beat Leicester away from home.

The last three meetings in a row have all seen both teams to score.

Leicester vs Bournemouth Prediction:

In a lot of cases even with the teams that are in the bottom three and eventually go down their home record can still be fairly decent. Most clubs home records will be better than their away top to bottom but it’s when your struggling that your home record is going to get more highlighted and that is the worry for Leicester. They have only won three times so far with 8 defeats from 14 and just 17 goals scored their recent home record is a real worry too having lost their last three. But the Foxes will have to believe that they can win this game, simply because they are coming up against a side who genuinely struggle on the road. It may seem hyperbole to say this and it’s certainly premature but one would expect that if the Foxes were not to win this game then their fate could be begin to be sealed, players motivation is already low but losing to Bournemouth at home would just take that to another level. These are the games that must be won.

Ultimately then this is not an easy game to predict because a 0-0 result is just as likely as a narrow 1-0 victory for either side but we will opt for the home side given the Cherries away record and the fact that they have struggled against Leicester away from home in the past four decades.
