Leicester vs Aston Villa: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 23rd April 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium

Match Preview:

Leicester continue to surprise because even though Jamie Vardy has been missing through injury and the club have little to play for in the league now they keep picking up points and the clubs form coming into this game is solid. In midweek the Foxes played a rearranged game with Everton and drew 1-1 but Brendan Rodgers side who had scored early looked to be heading for victory until Everton scored deep into injury time.

If we are being truthful Leicester are going to be more concerned about their Conference League semi-final with Roma than this game but at the same time Rodgers has made it very evident that every game counts for the club. Leicester come into this one in 9th place with 41 points and you get the feeling that the minimum the club will require this season is a top half finish. It seems very likely now that the highest position they will finish this season is 9th.

Aston Villa are safe but they have been slipping and sliding lately and have fallen to 15th place with 36 points. It is four defeats in a row for Steven Gerrard’s side and their last game ended in a 4-0 home loss to Tottenham. Villa haven’t played for two weeks so has Gerrard been able to get back to the drawing board in that time and will the rest work in the clubs favour?

Villa have lost their last two games against Wolves and West Ham respectively and have been beaten 10 times on the road. They have 18 points from a possible 48 and are yet to draw on the road. Their last away win came in March when they beat Leeds.

Team News:

Leicester: Boubakry Soumare is being pencilled in to return for this game after his groin injury. There are no new injuries for the club but Jamie Vardy, Danny Ward, Ndidi and Ryan Bertrand are all missing.

Aston Villa: Lucas Digne is out with a shoulder injury, he is the only injury worry for the club.

Leicester vs Aston Villa Head to Head:

Last season Aston Villa won this fixture 1-0.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Aston Villa won 2-1.

There is an 80% chance to see both teams to score.

There hasn’t been a 0-0 result since 2000 which was 21 games ago.

Leicester vs Aston Villa Prediction:

Leicester have been unpredictable and by their recent standards are about 15 points off of their normal pace. They have had to do without striker Jamie Vardy for large chunks of the season though and this has certainly taken points away from the club. The Foxes have made up for this by doing well in the Conference League and they have a huge match coming up in that and one would think that their minds would be on that game. However they are at home where they are unbeaten in the last couple of months and have won their last 3.

These are worrying times for Aston Villa because a few weeks ago the club had a genuine chance of finishing in the top half of the table and that would have been impressive this season for Gerrard coming into the club. One has to wonder if some of the poor form witnessed at the back end of this season may be a foreshadowing of what could happen next season, there is certainly a lot of work to be done at the club. Villa are in poor form and they will be hoping that Leicester will be thinking of their European game, but Rodgers doesn’t seem to drill his players that way and Leicester has a chance to take all three points in what should be a very close game.
