England Premier League
Tuesday 4th April 2023
Kick off at 7:45pm BST
Venue: King Power Stadium
Match Preview:
Brendan Rodgers has left Leicester, that is the leading story coming into this game and the Foxes are in 19th place coming into this week with 25 points. Their 17th defeat of the season came at the hands of Crystal Palace in a 2-1 loss that Rodgers had described as ‘cruel’. He wasn’t wrong, the game was a closely fought one which was literally won with the last kick for Palace.
How do Leicester quickly regroup? That is the question. The good news is that they will be at home and have everyone on their side but it seems unlikely they will be able to pick themselves up and for now the 2016 champions could well be relegated. Still there is time and so many teams are down there with only a few points being the difference, for example if Leicester were to win this game they could well be out of the bottom three. Form has been poor though for the Foxes with just 1 point won from their last 15, and at home it’s seven defeats so far. Home form did seem to be picking up but they then lost to Chelsea and Arsenal.
Aston Villa continued their superb form especially away from home as they beat Chelsea 2-0 at the weekend, it was a result that ended up costing Graham Potter his job. Villa have climbed up to 9th place and have been remarkable under Unai Emery as they try to chase down a European finish and they are only two points behind that target. On form Villa would be in 3rd place and they have won 13 points from their last 15.
Team News:
Leicester: Jonny Evans may finally get the green light after some fitness issues, Youri Tielemans looks to be sidelined for a period with an ankle injury. Ryan Bertrand could be assessed but is still struggling with a lack of match fitness.
Aston Villa: Matthew Cash is set to miss the next two weeks at least with his calf injury. Phillipe Coutinho could be assessed but doesn’t seem to be ready to return after a hamstring injury.
Leicester vs Aston Villa Head to Head:
Last season this fixture finished 0-0.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Leicester won 4-2.
There is a 60% chance to see both teams to score.
Leicester vs Aston Villa Prediction:
Aston Villa is a tough ask to play when you’re out of form and now have lost your manager. There is no indication that the Leicester players had a major problem with Rodgers and so they may be feeling down about the fact that the man steering the ship has gone. This doesn’t look like a good time to be playing Villa and we expect an away win here.
Leicester have pulled some good results out of the bag this season despite being poor and one of those was putting 4 goals past Aston Villa away from home with Emery in charge. But it seems a stretch that the Foxes will able to replicate that and Emery seems to have settled in more to his job now. Indeed Leicester are looking at relegation but Villa are looking for European football and despite it being another away game for Emery’s side if they score first they have every chance at decent odds to win this game.
