Match Preview:

It’s match day 10 in the Premier League and this weekend will begin with a potentially exciting fixture when Arsenal travel up to Leicester.

Leicester have significantly improved over the past month and come into this game unbeaten in their last four. That includes two wins in a row after convincingly beating Manchester United 4-2 and following that up with 2-1 victory at Brentford. In midweek the Foxes also qualified for the quarter finals of the EFL Cup as their match with Brighton finished 2-2 and Brendan Rodgers side advanced on penalties. It was a tough game but it would have kept up the winning momentum.

When we think of Leicester we tend to think of Jamie Vardy but another player has shown form lately and that is Youri Tielemans. James Maddison who had a very good last season scored last weekend and there is a feeling that Rodgers has his side back on course after a sluggish start. The Foxes are in 9th place with 14 points and victory here could see them climb into the top six.

What makes this game so appealing is that both sides are in form. Of course this is great news for Arsenal who were bottom of the league after three games. The Gunners have climbed to 10th place and only goal difference separates them from Leicester. Arsenal have been one of the most in form sides in the Premier League and have earned 11 points from a possible 15. They are starting to pick up points that at least last season would have been questionable and that was underlined last week as they beat Aston Villa 3-1 at home.

The Gunners are scoring goals which is always a good sign and they have 5 in their last two games. In midweek the winning run continued in the EFL Cup as Mikel Arteta’s side beat Leeds 2-0 at home in a routine win, even with changes to the side. The one worry for the Gunners is their away form though and from the 14 points they have so far, only 4 of those have come on their travels. It’s just one victory away and that came against Burnley and their last away game finished 0-0 against Brighton. What is interesting is that the Gunners have scored just once away so far.

Team News:

Leicester: Marc Albrighton is out wit a knock for at least another 10 days. Justin James could make his long awaited comeback in this game after his knee injury but will be assessed. Jamie Vardy will be assessed after aggravating his knee though it is unclear how bad the outcome is and he has a chance to recover for the match. Ndidi is not due back for another month due to his hamstring injury.

Arsenal: Pablo Mari should return from illness. Martin Odegaard has a knock but is being tipped to be fine for this game. Ben White is being pencilled in to return for this game after falling ill a few days ago. Granit Xhaka is a long term injury and isn’t due back for at least another 2 months due to a knee injury.

Leicester vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Last season this fixture finished 3-1 to Arsenal, indeed Arsenal have won the last 2 meetings at Leicester.

4 from the last 6 meetings has not seen both teams to score.

There has only been one 0-0 result between the clubs in the last 19 meetings.

Leicester vs Arsenal Prediction:

Normally when these two teams have played, one has clearly shown more form than the other. This was highlighted in 2019 at this stadium when Leicester won 2-0 in a straightforward victory. But this match looks like it will be much closer.

We could expect to see quite a close and tense affair that really gets going in the 2nd half, when weary legs take shape and it might be a moment of magic that settles the game. On one hand we have Leicester who have already shown their weak points this season but who are clearly getting back to their best. Arsenal on the other hand are one of the best sides in the league based on the past month. But there has to be worries about the Gunners playing away from home, that is the sticking point, their away form is just too poor to really trust them and we will side with the home team to get the narrow win. Leicester should be respected at home, they like playing attack minded teams, just look at the four goals they put past Manchester United recently. There may not be much in this game, though we expect a match you won’t be able to take your eyes off, but Arsenal could just come up short here.
