Leeds vs West Ham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Friday 11th December 2020
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

Both Leeds and West Ham lost last weekend and this could be an opportunity for either team to make an immediate bounce back when these two open another weekend of the Premier League on Friday evening.

Leeds lost their fifth game of the season at Chelsea going down 3-1 despite taking the lead and that game emphaised just how hard it is for the club in the top flight. Despite playing some very good football and getting some encouraging results Leeds are 14th. However the club are only a win away from a possible top 10 position.

It’s interesting to note that Marcelo Bielsa’s side have won more points away from home and at Elland Road have only earned 5 points of their total of 14. They have no wins at home in their last four games and their last match here ended 0-0 against Arsenal.

West Ham’s solid form came to an end at home with defeat against Manchester United. That may not have come as a shock but the Hammers were in pole position to win the game having dominated the first half and taken the lead. But United with the help of VAR it must be said came back into the game and once they had levelled took over and went on to win 3-1.

How will David Moyes side react to not just the defeat but the way they lost the game? That is the big question. That loss ended a very good 3 game winning streak. The Hammers have 3 more points than Leeds and a win would take the Londoners into 5th place albeit before the other teams have played.

West Ham’s away form is not the best with 1 win in their last 3 but that victory did come in their last away match in a duel that ended with a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United.

Team News:

Leeds: Robin Koch has a knee injury and this is a major blow to the club losing the defender who is expected to be out for at least three months. Diego Llorente was due to come back but has a muscle injury and his delay will see him miss the next 3 weeks at least.

West Ham: Michail Antonio had recovered from recent injury but now has a hamstring and could well miss the rest of the year as a result. Ryan Fredericks could be back after his slight groin injury.

Leeds vs West Ham Head to Head:

The last time the clubs played at Elland Road was back in 2012 when the game finished 1-1.

They have not met in a Premier League match since 2003 with that match at Leeds ending 1-0 to the home side.

Since 1978 West Ham have recorded just 2 wins at Elland Road, the last one coming in 2000.

The last four meetings have seen both teams to score.

Leeds vs West Ham Prediction:

West Ham have a poor record at Elland Road however this season so do Leeds. Bielsa will be expecting his side to start collecting points at home because at the end of the day if the club continue in this form they could be swamped in a relegation battle.

Both sides can play good attacking football and we expect to see an open game with goals, and are tempted to back both teams to score. This is a hard game for the Hammers though, three points that probably aren’t expected but they have surprised on a few occasions already this season. You get the feeling that Leeds have the quality at home to come away with a victory over West Ham, and the fact that Michail Antonio will be out for some time is a body blow for the visitors.
