England Premier League
Saturday 26th February 2022
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Elland Road
Match Preview:
Leeds form is one of a relegation team and it is easy to think that Marcelo Bielsa’s side could get sucked into the bottom three. The lunchtime kick off will see Leeds having to take on a tricky opponent in Tottenham.
Leeds have won just 7 points from their last 30 and on current form they would be bottom of the league with 4 defeats from their last five games. This includes losing their last 3 which have come against Everton, Manchester United and Liverpool. Not easy fixtures for Leeds but it is worrying that they have conceded 13 goals in those games.
The continued absence of striker Patrick Bamford is a worry and the club have been really unlucky to have effectively missed out on his services for most of the season as he did impress last season. Leeds are in 15th place and are just three points from the bottom three though currently the team in 18th place Burnley has 2 games in hand over Bielsa’s side.
Has Tottenham manager Antonio Conte gone into meltdown just 3 months into the job? Conte said that maybe he isn’t the right manager for the club after he witnessed his side lose 1-0 to relegation threatened Burnley. Maybe it was simply a battle cry from the Italian to his team as he has been left frustrated by them on many occasions. But here was a man who stopped short of calling the players he has to work with useless, that was his body language after the Burnley defeat. It is incredible how quickly football changes too as at the weekend he celebrated like a kid as Tottenham stunned Manchester City at the Etihad with a last minute 3-2 win. But football knows how to kick you where it hurts sometimes.
The loss to Burnley has dented Tottenham’s top 4 hopes and they are in 8th place with 39 points. They do have 2 games in hand over the 4th team Manchester United but have fallen seven points behind them. Current form has been terrible for the club with 4 defeats from their last five and that includes losing 2 from their last three away from home.
Team News:
Leeds: Diego Llorente will be assessed after his hamstring injury and could return for this game. Robin Koch will be assessed for his head injury. Patrick Bamford remains out due to a foot injury. Kalvin Phillips is not expected back for another week. Leo Fuhr Hjelde is out for another two weeks at least with a knee injury. Sam Greenwood is out long term also with a knee injury. Liam Cooper will miss out again due to his hamstring but should return in about 10 days.
Tottenham: Rodrigo Bentancur has a thigh injury and could miss out for this one but will be assessed. Olivier Skipp is out with his groin as is Japhet Tanganga with his knee, both players have no return dates scheduled.
Leeds vs Tottenham Head to Head:
Last season Leeds won this fixture 3-1.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Tottenham beat Leeds 2-1.
From the last 11 meetings between the teams Leeds have won just twice.
5 from the last six meetings has seen both teams to score.
Leeds vs Tottenham Prediction:
Conte has spoken, the rally cry has swept through the media and Tottenham players are on trail. Forget about beating Manchester City last weekend here is a team that are blowing their top 4 chances by every other week and here is a team who have lost 4 of their last five games just at the business end of the Premier League season. Tottenham look years away from being regarded as one of the top teams in the league and yet that is so frustrating given how well the team can play on any particular day and of course there is genuine quality in the team.
Tottenham are odds on for this game but not a terrible price and they should be taken on here. Facing Burnley was always in reality going to be a tough game, Sean Dyche’s side are a solid unit and have shown very good form lately. The same can’t be said of Leeds, solid and Leeds don’t go together well. Leeds look like a team you can carve open at will and if Tottenham were not able to win here that could be the final straw for the club when it comes to trying to finish 4th. They may well end up losing Conte to who will want to manage in the Champions League next season. Leeds are in big trouble and if Tottenham show up we can only see one winner here.
We will back a few markets and also look out for Heung- Min Son he is due a goal and has scored a couple against Leeds in the previous matches they have recently played.
Leeds vs Tottenham Betting Tips:
Tottenham to beat Leeds at 1.91
Anytime goalscorer: Heung-Min Son at 2.05
Both teams to score at 1.57
