Leeds vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 8th May 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm BST
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

For Leeds European football next season hangs by a thread and probably won’t be happening but was that ever the objective for a club who had spent 17 years out of the top flight? The first was just to stay up and that was easily secured, the second will be trying to finish in the top half of the table. Currently the club are in 11th but with a win here they would go 9th until at least Sunday when Arsenal and Aston Villa would play their respective games. A win would also put Leeds on the 50 point marker.

Overall this has been a great season for Leeds and they have passed their standard, although recent form has dipped and they come into this tricky fixture with no wins in their last 3 games. Last weekend they were beaten 2-0 by Brighton however at home Bielsa’s side have put together a solid run and are unbeaten in their last 4 matches.

Tottenham smashed Sheffield United 4-0 last weekend, which would have given the club the perfect tonic after losing the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City. Indeed for interim manager Ryan Mason it is coached 2 games in the league and won 2 following their win also over Southampton, and he has seen the club score 6 goals in that time.

Gareth Bale seems to have found more purpose and confidence as he tries to end the season strongly and he scored a hat-trick last weekend. Tottenham have given themselves a chance of a top four finish though they will have to hope that Chelsea and West Ham start dropping points. Especially Chelsea who are 5 points in front of them.

Team News:

Leeds United: Raphinha is only 50/50 after his knock and will be assessed. Kalvin Phillips is also 50/50 to return after his knee injury and could face a late test. Helder Costa has been ruled out for the season after his back injury.

Tottenham: Ben Davies looks set to miss out again with a knock, but he is the only injury concern for the club ahead of the game.

Leeds vs Tottenham Head to Head:

The team haven’t played at Leeds ground since 2013 when they met in the FA Cup and Leeds won 2-1.

The last time they met at Elland Road in the league was back in 2004 and Tottenham won 1-0.

Earlier this season in the reverse fixture Tottenham won 3-0.

There is an 80% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Leeds vs Tottenham Prediction:

Tottenham need to go for the win and despite them picking up some good form the club have never played away under Mason yet. Leeds have proven at least at home to be no pushovers and with Tottenham attacking we do expect to see an open game.

The clubs simply haven’t played each other many times over the years though Tottenham do seem to have favourable results over Leeds and we can see them powering through here. That is by no means certain as both clubs have many playing versions of themselves. But at Tottenham after the upheaval of Jose Mourinho there just seems to be an objective now to take each game as it comes and perform well. These could be exciting times for Tottenham as they try to finish their season in the strongest way possible and some key players such as Bale and Heung-Min Son have found their confidence at the right time.

Leeds vs Tottenham Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (0.0 Tottenham) at 1.525

Anytime goalscorer: Heung-Min Son at 2.50

Both teams to score at 1.50
