Venue: Elland Road
Match Preview:
We are going to learn a lot about this Leeds side on Sunday when they take on Norwich and the spotlight will be blinding on new Leeds manager Jesse Marsch who has had a poor start with the club.
Marsch has already seen two defeats from his first two games coming against Leicester and Aston Villa, and with the team conceding 4 goals in those matches there doesn’t seem like an escape for Leeds at the moment. And yet here we are with two months of the season to go and Leeds will be at home to the bottom club Norwich, a win will be expected.
Leeds are in 16th place and are just a point above Everton and 2 points above the relegation zone. The problem is that they have played 28 games, that is 3 more than Everton and 2 more than 18th placed Burnley so the pressure is on and the club are among the favourites to go down. Leeds and Norwich have both lost their last 5 games and would be bottom of the league- indeed Leeds win that battle as they have shipped 18 goals in that time and scored just 2 goals.
If any club look relegated then it is Norwich, true they are 5 points from safety but because of goal difference that is six and they have also played 3 more games than 17th placed Everton. Norwich were defeated in midweek as they lost 3-1 at home to Chelsea but had some decent spells in that game. But the defeats have just kept on coming and they have conceded 15 goals in their last five games. Away from home Norwich do not have the worst record, that goes to Everton but they have only won 8 points from a possible 39 and have the second to worst record. The Canaries did beat Watford on the road recently but come into this game having lost their last two.
Team News:
Leeds: Junior Firpo has a leg injury and is ruled out, Tyler Roberts will now miss the rest of the season with his hamstring injury. Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper won’t return until next month as both have been sidelined for some time with hamstring injuries.
Norwich: Sam Byram has fatigue and is a doubt but will be assessed. Adam Idah is out for the season with a back injury.
Leeds vs Norwich Head to Head:
The last time the clubs played at Leeds was in 2019 in th Championship and Norwich won 3-1.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Leeds won 2-1.
From the last 12 meetings Norwich have just 3 victories.
3 of the last four meetings has seen both teams to score.
Leeds vs Norwich Prediction:
At home Leeds have lost their last 4 games and conceded 11 goals in that time, this is Championship quality and the only redeeming factor for the club is that they might just be facing poorer opposition. Norwich will give it a go and against this leaky Leeds defence we expect they can have plenty of chances and find the back of the net. There is a good chance to see both teams to score.
This is a cup final for Leeds- one of many until the end of the season and we expect a very open game but we will back the home side to win. The 1.57 being quoted for victory is incredibly poor odds given how poor Leeds have been, even if they are facing Norwich. We might as well look for better value with smaller stakes using the -1 asian handicap because it is hard to trust Leeds 100% at this moment. The worry will exist in defence but Marsch needs this win after such a disappointing start. This game remains utterly important for Leeds because lose this and the belief in the players that they can stay up will be at an all time low.
Leeds vs Norwich Betting Tips:
Asian handicap (-1 Leeds) at 2.05
Both teams to score at 1.66
Anytime goalscorer: Patrick Bamford at 2.00
