England Premier League
Wednesday 16th December 2020
Kick off at 6pm GMT
Venue: Elland Road
Match Preview:
Last weekend Leeds lost against West Ham and that is their 2nd loss in a row which has put the club in 14th place with the same amount of points.
There has been a lot of optimism at Leeds and they seem to have a drive which means that they won’t be facing a relegation battle but at the same time they are lacking true consistency to be a threat most weeks.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side come into this fixture having won just once in their last five games. Home form has been a real concern for the club as they have won just one game so far, earning 5 points from 18 available. The last time they picked up a point at home was against Arsenal with that match ending 0-0.
Newcastle are a couple of places above Leeds and have 3 more points and last weekend they beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1, it means the Magpies come into this game with some confidence given that they have won their last two matches and have won 3 from their last five. A victory for Steve Bruce’s side could move them into the top 10.
The Magpies won their last away game beating Crystal Palace and have only lost once away so far which came against Southampton. They have also only conceded 4 goals on the road, which is a record that can only be beaten by Aston Villa.
Team News:
Leeds: Robin Koch is out for 3 months after his knee injury. Jay-Roy Grot has had complications with his knee injury and is long term. Diego Llorente is not due back until during the Christmas period.
Newcastle: Jamaal Lascelles will be assessed for his return. Allan Saint-Maximin is a major doubt with a muscle injury.
Leeds vs Newcastle Head to Head:
The clubs have not met at Leeds since 2016 when Newcastle won 2-0.
In the last decade the clubs have only met three times and there is a 100% success rate to see under 2.5 goals.
Leeds have not beaten Newcastle at home since 1999.
Leeds vs Newcastle Prediction:
We expect to see an open game by two sides who look inventive and like to attack and they could well be testing each others defences throughout the game. History says this is a fixture with few goals in it but at the end of the day the clubs have not met each other regularly over the last 10 years.
Expect goals and plenty of action and this seems like the better market to go with rather than a home, away or draw result. The market is open and the value is good, and because we are not even half way into the season these two teams should just go for it, as oppose to being cautious near the end of the season.
Leeds vs Newcastle Betting Tips:
Over 2.5 goals at 1.72
Anytime goalscorer: Patrick Bamford at 2.10
Both teams to score at 1.66
