England Premier League
Sunday 12th February 2023
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Elland Road
Match Preview:
Do not adjust your sets, yes it is true that these two clubs only met in the league 3 days ago in the reverse fixture and here they go again. In midweek managerless Leeds almost caused an upset as they sped into a 2-0 lead however Erik ten Hag’s side were able to find their rhythm and eventually clawed the game back for it to end 2-2. In some ways of course it was a disappointing night for Leeds but even a point when your down there in the table is valuable and for United the draw dented their top four finish hopes.
Leeds are in 16th place with 19 points and just one point from joining the other clubs in the bottom three. Form has seen just 3 points earned in the last five games and the clubs last win came back at the beginning of November when they overcame Bournemouth. The majority of their home results have ended in draws with 4 from 10 games so far and their last two games at home have ended in draws against both Brentford and West Ham.
Manchester United could go 2nd if they win here as Manchester City play in the early evening game. United have vastly improved over the last few months but recent form has been too inconsistent for them to mount a surprise title challenge. They have won just once in their last four collecting 8 points from their last 15 on offer. United could also slip to fourth if Newcastle have won the day before and they lose this game but they just need at least a draw to keep 3rd. The Red Devils have won 50% of their away games however they have gone their last two games on the road with no victories following a draw against Crystal Palace and a defeat against Arsenal.
Team News:
Leeds: Liam Cooper has a knock and is only 50/50 to make this game, it is the same situation for Marc Roca. Pascal Struijk has been ruled out with a head injury. Luis Sinisterra is struggling with a muscle injury and will be assessed. Rodrigo is out for at least 6 weeks due to an ankle injury. Sonny Perkins and Archie Gray look set to miss out again also with ankle injuries. Stuart Dallas is out with no fixed return date with his leg.
Manchester United: Casemiro is suspended and won’t return until the beginning of next month. Anthony is a major doubt and looks set to miss out with a leg injury. Anthony Martial looks set to miss out with his hip but could return next week. Christian Eriksen is out for around six weeks due to his ankle. Scott McTominay looks a doubt with his knock but will be assessed. Aaron Wan-Bissaka should return from illness. Donny van de Beek has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury.
Leeds vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Last season Manchester United won this fixture 4-2.
Just a few days ago the sides drew 2-2 in the reverse fixture.
The last 3 meetings have all seen both teams to score.
In the last 11 meetings Leeds have only beaten Manchester United once and that was in the FA Cup.
Leeds vs Man Utd Prediction:
You have to give Leeds credit to go to Old Trafford and take a 2 goal lead and give United a real scare. They nearly pulled off a very surprise result but at the end of the day a 2-2 result was still seen as just that. Of course you have to question had they been the team to go two goals down if they could have pulled it back or not? Because of their heroics a few days ago it may be tempting for sections of the media to heap a lot of praise on Leeds and give them a chance in this game. We are not as convinced and some of the United players would have had a stern talking too and we believe that the club can bounce back here and get the 3 points that many expected them to a few days ago.
United have to keep pushing because Newcastle and Tottenham could well end their dream of a top four finish and of course they have the extra motivation of going past Manchester City with victory here which has become a very rare occurrence in recent times.
