England Premier League
Tuesday 25th April 2023
Kick off at 8pm BST
Venue: Elland Road
Match Preview:
By far this is the game of Tuesday night in the Premier League as these two clubs have their top flight status under threat and this is set to be a huge ‘six pointer’. A draw isn’t too good for either side as they look to pull clear of the bottom three.
Let’s start with Leeds who have worryingly found bad form at the wrong time and come into this clash having lost their last 3. Those defeats have come against Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Fulham last weekend which they lost 2-1 away from home. One has to wonder of course if Leeds will start this game with some trepidation given that they have conceded 11 goals in their last two home games. First there was the 5-1 loss to Crystal Palace in a game in which they had taken the lead and then a 6-1 humbling to Liverpool. Leeds are in 16th place with 29 points and just one clear of the bottom three and a win here would not change their position but they would go 4 points clear of the bottom three.
Leicester have diced with relegation for the majority of the season but their 2-1 win against Wolves at the weekend was a huge result for the Foxes and put them into 17th place. Still they are only there because of goal difference over Everton but the taste of victory has come at the right time and if Leicester can win this game they would go into 16th and above Leeds. Form for the club has not been good though with 4 defeats from their last five and away form has only seen four wins thus far and that includes just 1 point earned from their last 15 on offer.
Team News:
Leeds: There are no new injuries for the club but Tyler Adams (hamstring) and Stuart Dallas (leg) remain out long term.
Leicester: Harvey Barnes is being tipped to return from a hamstring injury, Ryan Bertrand will be assessed due to fitness issues. Jonny Evans has been ruled out due to illness. James Maddison is also ill but is more likely to be ready for this match. Ricardo Pereira is out with his hamstring and Jannik Vestergaard has been ruled out for the season due to a calf injury.
Leeds vs Leicester Head to Head:
Last season in this fixture the teams drew 1-1.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Leicester won 2-0.
Leeds have not beaten Leicester at home in the last three meetings.
The last three meetings have all seen under 2.5 goals.
Leeds vs Leicester Prediction:
It’s not a big scoop but we predict to see a very tight game as both clubs have so much to lose. But we won’t sit on the fence and expect to see a winner on the night. Leicester have had a good hold over Leeds at Elland Road in recent times and we can see that both sides have been struggling for form, Leicester have been poor away from home but they would have taken a boost at the weekend with a win. Our choice is to see the Foxes get at least a point, they will be determined not to go down and that doesn’t mean that Leeds will be less determined but you have to question the clubs confidence after their last two nightmare home games. If Leicester can score first and get their noses in front, that will not only silence the home fans but the Leeds players will have doubts in their minds too.
We backed Jamie Vardy to score last weekend and cancel out his drought and he didn’t quite manage it but we will be backing him again. He was vital when Leicester won the league and maybe he will be vital as they battle for their Premier League status and because of his lack of goals this season he is great value.
