England Premier League
Wednesday 3rd February 2021
Kick off at 7:30pm GMT
Venue: Elland Road
Match Preview:
Leeds look to have guaranteed their safety, that is if it were ever in doubt with two away wins in the last week and they come into this match with 29 points and are only four behind their opponents Everton.
Leeds have beaten Newcastle 2-1 and then Leicester 3-1 in impressive results and the club seem like they are on a roll. Although it is true that Marcelo Bielsa’s side have not been able to find consistency this season they have pulled off some terrific results. One of those includes beating Everton at Goodison Park by 1-0 earlier in the season and you get the feeling Leeds will not have anything to fear when these two teams clash on Wednesday evening.
Everton are a frustrating team because every time they come close to achieving something spectacular like gatecrashing if you like the top 5 they tend to take steps backwards. Last week they drew 1-1 at home to Leicester but were leading that game then at the weekend Everton put in a dismal display to lose 2-0 at home again, this time to Newcastle.
The Newcastle defeat seemed to hurt because the Magpies had come into that game in very poor form yet looked like a new team and put in a solid performance. Everton have 1 win in their last four and have dropped down to 8th place. The good news for Carlo Ancelotti’s side is that they have 2 games in hand over most of the teams above them and that would put them in 4th place.
Everton have actually won more points away from home and have won 6 times from 9 games played. This includes winning their last 3 games. Everton’s last away win came against Wolves, which they won 2-1. Everton have also conceded just 9 goals on the road and only Manchester City have a better defensive away record.
Team News:
Leeds: Raphinha has a muscle injury but will be assessed ahead of the game. Rodrigo also has a muscle injury but he is a major doubt for this game. Diego Llorente is out for at least another two weeks also with a muscle injury.
Everton: Allan is touch and go and is back in training, though he is expected to miss this game if he does he should be back for the weekend. Cenk Tosun has joined Besiktas on loan until the end of the season.
Leeds vs Everton Head to Head:
The teams have not met at Elland Road in the league since 2004 when the game finished 1-1.
There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.
Since 1985 Everton have only won twice at Leeds.
Leeds vs Everton Prediction:
Everton have the team to beat Leeds but the club look shot of confidence at the moment. They need to do a lot of work behind the scenes and even Ancelotti needs to realise that when Everton take the lead in games the tactic cannot be to back off and let the other team play.
Everton have pulled off some great results and not many could have seen the club go to Leicester a few months ago and pull off a 2-0 win. But at the same time the club can suffer from a lack of belief.
Leeds come into this game full on and fully charged and they will be a difficult team to beat, but they will also leave gaps at the back. It should be noted that Everton has a poor record at this stadium and taking into account both teams form coming into this one, it is hard to see Everton coming away from this game with a win.
