England Premier League
Tuesday 30th November 2021
Kick off at 8:15pm GMT
Venue: Elland Road
Match Preview:
Leeds are still in 17th place and whilst they are struggling for wins they are trying to patch together a few points and have in fact drawn most of their games so far with 6 from their 13 ending this way. It was the same result this past weekend with a 0-0 draw against Brighton and given how good Brighton have been this season that would have been seen as a valuable point for Marcelo Bielsa’s team.
It’s just 1 defeat from their last 5 games and they have won 6 points from their last 15 so signs seem encouraging compared to how Leeds started the season but they are certainly missing victories and that is what is ultimately keeping them down near the relegation zone.
Currently Leeds have a 3 point safety cushion to the bottom three, at home it’s just one win however the club have gone their last 3 games without defeat here and survival for Bielsa’s side will be all about how they perform at home.
Crystal Palace started the season slow but have really impressed in the last six weeks however coming into this one it has been two games without a win. Palace have drawn against Burnley in a thrilling game that finished 3-3 and this past weekend they were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa.
Palace are now down to 11th place with 16 points but for now they are in a safe space and are 7 points above the relegation zone. However you get the sense that manager Patrick Vieira wants to try and qualify for European football this season. Despite some impressive performances from the club they have just one victory on the road although they have gone their last 3 games without defeat.
Team News:
Leeds: Patrick Bamford is still out with an ankle injury. Luke Ayling remains a doubt with fitness issues but could be assessed. Robin Koch is out long term with his pelvic injury.
Crystal Palace: Joachim Andersen has picked up a hamstring injury although it isn’t known how serious this is, but this game is likely to come too quick for him. James MacArthur is out with his hamstring. Nathan Ferguson is out with fitness issues.
Leeds vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:
Last season Leeds won this fixture 2-0.
Crystal Palace haven’t beaten Leeds away from home since 2006.
There is a 70% chance to see both teams to score.
Leeds vs Crystal Palace Prediction:
Even though Leeds have won two games it is such a rare occurrence that their plight reminds one of Newcastle’s- a team waiting for a win. Leeds have some great results over Crystal Palace through the years here so they will be looking to keep that record up.
Only 3 other teams Southampton, Wolves and Norwich have scored less goals at home than Leeds so far and with six goals that is a poor return. However it is clear that they have been missing Patrick Bamford. Whilst some believe that Bielsa plays the same way no matter what, he has had to adapt to some of the clubs key injuries and even at home has played just 1 up front, but is that hindering the clubs chances on goal?
Patrick Vieira will be slightly worried about the clubs form and will hope that this isn’t the beginning of a slump. We expect a close game but Leeds will need to take some risks because at this time they are playing with fear.
