Leeds vs Chelsea: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 13th March 2021
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

You could almost guarantee one win in two for Leeds a month back but Marcelo Bielsa’s side’s form has really nosedived and the club come into this game having won just once in their last five.

The one victory came at home against Southampton and there will be some concern over the teams latest performances. Still with 35 points and in 11th place the clubs survival for this season looks guaranteed. Last weekend though Leeds lost their 14th game of the season as they were defeated 2-0 by West Ham away from home. In truth Leeds had plenty of chances and Bielsa will not be too concerned if he sees his side are trying, though the game at the weekend looks to be another difficult job for the club.

Chelsea look slick and professional and with their defence sorted out they look like a shoe-in for a top 4 finish, they could even finish higher if they keep up this form. Last Monday Chelsea faced Everton in a huge game given that Everton have emerged as a top 4 contender but Chelsea showed their qualities in a 2-0 victory at home. Under Thomas Tuchel the Blues still remain undefeated and life looks very rosy at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel’s side could go 3rd in the league on goal difference to Leicester with victory here. The Blues come into this game having won their last 2 and have earned 11 points from their last 15 on offer.

Team News:

Leeds: Pablo Hernandez is ruled out with a muscle injury. Robin Koch will be assessed due to a lack of match fitness.

Chelsea: Tammy Abraham is out with an ankle injury, Thiago Silva is ruled out as he has picked up a thigh strain.

Leeds vs Chelsea Head to Head:

Earlier in the season Chelsea won this game 3-1.

The last time the clubs played at Elland Road was back in 2012 in the League Cup where Chelsea won 5-1.

4 of the last 10 results has had the final correct score of 2-0.

Leeds have not beaten Chelsea since 2002 but the clubs have only played six times during that period.

Leeds vs Chelsea Prediction:

Leeds are in a position where they should be safe but at the other time will not have enough points to make Europe. This is possibly why some of the fizz has left the club in recent weeks. It does mean that they can go out and try and enjoy their football and they can still be a threat to some clubs.

But the way Leeds play, usually plays into the hands of a club like Chelsea who can come forward at alarming pace and we expect that the Blues who will be fully motivated here can take the 3 points. Tammy Abraham’s injury is a blow to the club but they have so much quality going forward they will not miss his services over the next few weeks.

Leeds can play their part, and this should be end to end and an entertaining game so we will be hoping for goals.
