Kick off at 3pm GMT
Venue: Elland Road
Match Preview:
What a huge result it was for Leeds and manager Jesse Marsch last weekend as they stunned Liverpool with a 2-1 win at Anfield. The game was heading for a respectable draw but a last minute winner meant that Liverpool lost for the first time since March 2021 at home and there was a lot of joy for Leeds. Jesse Marsch wore his smile, in fact one can suspect he hasn’t been able to take it off since last weekend as that win seems to have effectively saved his job. The American was under intense pressure before the Liverpool game but he will understand that his side need to push on and win this one also.
Victory last weekend which of course was seen as one of the shocks of the season means Leeds have risen up to 15th place and ended a dire run, the club have already lost 50% of their games so far and despite last weekend they are only a point from the bottom three. At home they have won 2, lost 2 and drawn 2, although that includes losing their last two here against Arsenal and Fulham.
Bournemouth are on a bad run and one has to wonder if the club will decide to bring in a permanent manager with more experience. Interim manager Gary O’Neil has done a solid job for the Cherries under the circumstances but the form is dipping now and it’s been 4 games without a win including losing their last 3 in a row. Southampton, West Ham and Tottenham have been able to beat them recently and the loss against Antonio Conte’s side would have really hurt given that they were leading 2-0 at half time. On the road it’s one win in their last five and their last win came against Nottingham Forest at the beginning of September still they would rank in 11th place on away form.
Team News:
Leeds: There are no new injuries for the club but Luis Sinisterra and Stuart Dallas won’t return until after the World Cup. Archie Gray could be assessed but remains a doubt with a toe injury. Adam Forshaw is out long term with his ankle.
Bournemouth: Murara Neto is out until after the World Cup due to a hamstring injury, it is the same problem for David Brooks. Lloyd Kelly could miss the next two months with his ankle.
Leeds vs Bournemouth Head to Head:
The clubs have only played each other 13 times and Leeds have 10 wins.
They haven’t played this fixture since 2015 when Leeds won 1-0.
There is a 60% chance to see over 2.5 goals.
Leeds vs Bournemouth Prediction:
Leeds are the odds on favourites to win but their price is still decent value and we say this because everything points to Leeds winning this game. The Liverpool victory was obviously huge for them and surely this can at least kick start a moment where they can collect some points before the World Cup break. Leeds have a very good record over their opponents who also happen to be going through a poor run of form, so it would seem odd at this time to back anything other than a home win.
Patrick Bamford has been under the spotlight lately because he just can’t score a goal and it has been a frustrating time for him given that he missed most of last season. But it must be a matter of when and not if he starts finding the back of the net again and he is a good price at home to score anytime. Leeds will have to give everything in this game as the Premier League takes no fools and it would also feel like a typical Leeds performance to beat Liverpool away from home and then drop points here. It shouldn’t happen though and this really should be a straightforward win for the home team.
