England Premier League
Saturday 27th February 2021
Kick off at 5:30pm GMT
Venue: Elland Road
Match Preview:
Early evening on Saturday will see two exciting teams go head to head, and both clubs should feel very pleased with their seasons so far.
Leeds will be happy to remain at home after they played in midweek and beat Southampton 3-0. That win moved Marcelo Bielsa’s side up to 10th place and victory here would put the club in 8th. Recent form has been mixed and there remains a classic case with Leeds as either you get a great version of the club on any given day or a poor one, and there doesn’t seem to be an in-between. You get the feeling that Bielsa likes it that way.
Leeds don’t have the best home record and have actually lost five times here but they have won their last 2, scoring 5 goals and conceding none in the process.
Aston Villa still have 2 games in hand over some of the top teams but it doesn’t matter any more because the gap is too big, and Villa have dropped too many points and won just once in their last four games. Villa’s last match was crucial and one they would have benefited from winning but they lost 2-1 at home to Leicester. Dean Smith’s side haven’t won a game in the league since beating Arsenal at the start of this month.
Villa have been solid on the road though and have won 50% of their games with their last result away from home ending 0-0 against Brighton. What has been interesting is that with just 10 goals conceded on the road Villa have the 2nd best record in that department beaten only by Manchester City who have shipped just 8.
Team News:
Leeds: Mateusz Klich has a knock and will be assessed. Jamie Shackleton is a doubt with an hip injury. Rodrigo and Kalvin Phillips look set to miss out again and Robin Koch isn’t due back until early March.
Aston Villa: Matthew Cash is expected to miss at least 3 weeks with a hamstring injury. Jack Grealish is a doubt and only 50/50 with a leg injury and will have a late assessment.
Leeds vs Aston Villa Head to Head:
The last time the clubs played here was in 2019 in the Championship and the game ended 1-1.
Earlier this season in the reverse fixture Leeds beat Aston Villa 3-0.
In the last 7 meetings Aston Villa have managed just one victory.
Leeds vs Aston Villa Prediction:
Patrick Bamford could be the man to focus on in this game. Bamford who is on brilliant form lately scored a hat-trick against this Villa side earlier this season and at home, on form, and against Villa again one would suspect that Bamford could find the net again.
Aston Villa are not to be rejected too easy and Leeds don’t do consistency too well but we feel there is a good atmopshere at the club at present with some positive results and displays at home and Villa just seem to be blowing their chances of a European finish with the extra games they have to play. This could be a close match but of course Leeds could score another three goals just like they did against a decent side in Southampton, so we will opt for a home win at the weekend and a solid result from this Leeds side. The odds enable us to cover the draw, however Leeds have drawn only 2 games all season so there seems little point.
For now we feel confident in backing Leeds at home against teams around them or lower in the league, and Leeds have the motivation to move up the table and move past their visitors.
Leeds vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:
