Leeds vs Arsenal: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 16th October 2022
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Elland Road

Match Preview:

Leeds haven’t won a game since August and they have been sliding down the table ever since, the omens do not look good for the club at this present time. They are in 14th place with 9 points and need to find consistency fast but currently have a pattern of drawing one week and losing the next. Last weekend they were beaten at Crystal Palace and that followed a home draw against Aston Villa. At Elland Road though Jesse Marsch’s team remain unbeaten from their first four games and have earned 8 of their 9 points here so that is one plus. Ultimately it is their home form which could well keep them up this season.

Arsenal just keep on going and keep on winning. Everyone knew that Mikel Arteta had a good squad, but the club have punched above their weight and head into this weekend in 1st place. Yet they need to keep on winning games given that Manchester City are just one point behind. But for now it has been an impressive first two months of the season which has seen the Gunners win 8 of their first 9 games and last weekend they took a huge scalp in beating Liverpool 3-2 at the Emirates. That win means that Arteta’s side have won their last 3 games in a row in the league. In Europe they played in midweek and beat Bodo/Glimt 1-0, though they have a fairly weak group in the Europa League and are simply gliding through that. The real test of how better they have become is in the Premier League and all eyes will once again be on the Gunners.

Team News:

Leeds: Leo Fuhr Hjelde has a muscle injury and is expected to miss this game but be back next week. Archie Gray looks set to miss out again with a toe injury, Andy Forshaw is out but could be back by the end of the month and Stuart Dallas is out until the end of the year with his leg injury.

Arsenal: Oleksandr Zinchenko has a calf injury but could return for this game and will be assessed. Emile Smith-Rowe (groin) and Mohamed Elneny (hamstring) are both out long term.

Leeds vs Arsenal Head to Head:

Arsenal won 4-1 in last season’s fixture.

Arsenal have won the last 4 meetings in a row and Leeds have not beaten them when at home since 2000.

There is a 40% chance to see over 3.5 goals.

Leeds vs Arsenal Prediction:

Will a few slip ups happen for Arsenal which will ruin their title challenge? It may well happen at one point but looks like a distant shot on Sunday. For one Arsenal are far superior to their opponents but also the Gunners will understand that City could well drop points having to play Liverpool away on the same day and this could be a great opportunity for them to gain an advantage this weekend. Not only do we expect Arsenal to win but they could score quite a few goals here. They have a good history of doing so against Leeds.

It’s true that apart from their 5-2 loss against Brentford that Leeds have not conceded many goals but this is a real test for their defence against the quality and pace of an Arsenal side who have just stuck 3 past Liverpool, so we will be backing goals, but we only see one winner in this game.
