Huddersfield vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 29th January 2019
Kick off at 7.45pm GMT
Venue: Kirklees Stadium

Match Preview:

Huddersfield look doomed there is no question about it as they come into this meeting with Everton rock bottom of the Premier League and 10 points from safety.

The only chink of light for the club and it could be a significant one is that they have a new manager in the dug out - Jan Siewart. The German has no top tier level experience but has come from Borussia Dortmund’s second club and overall has 4 years experience coaching teams, he is 36 years old.

Hiring Siewart could well backfire for the club but they have been running out of options and need some changes. From the last 30 points available the club have picked up just 1 point and at home they have just one win all season and have lost 9 games from 12. Their latest defeat here was expected, losing to Manchester City 3-0.

Everton are in poor form having lost 3 of their last 4 games in the league. This was compounded by their FA Cup exit at the hands of Millwall. The Toffee men lost the game 3-2 despite leading twice.

Manager Marco Silva’s job is under immense pressure with early cup exits and the club arrive here in 11th place. However 7th place is just one win away in theory and the club still have a lot to fight for. Everton’s away record is poor with 6 defeats from 11 but their recent record is even worse with 4 defeats in their last five. The good news is that their one win came against Burnley - a side who have picked up since then, but also a team who were very low in confidence much like Huddersfield are.

Team News:

Huddersfield: The Philip Billing will be assesed and could play after his slight knee injury. The club have a list of longer term absentees but Billing is the only new concern

Everton: Phil Jagielka is set to miss another two weeks with a knock. Yerry Mina has a knock that he got in the FA Cup defeat but could play here as it is thought to be minor

Huddersfield vs Everton Head to Head:

Huddersfield vs Everton Prediction:

Everton should have too much quality for Huddersfield and win this match. The one worry is confidence, but Everton showed they can up their game, doing so by beating Burnley 5-1 despite going through poor form at the same time. Usually there is an upturn in teams fortunes when a new manager comes into the team but Siewart simply has no top tier experience and this could count against him. This game could be very tight, and quite possible not the prettiest, but we can see Everton just edging an away win here and it is a great opportuity for Everton to restore some confidence.
