Fulham vs Sheffield Utd: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 7th October 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

Fulham are down to 13th after losing the west London derby on Monday evening and for the most part the Cottagers looked toothless. It’s not been the worst possible form for Marco Silva’s side although it is just one win from the last four games. The main worry is that the club are not scoring enough goals with just five converted so far and none in the last two weeks.

At home Fulham have lost 66% of their games with their one win coming against Luton in a match that was close and ended just 1-0. Indeed Fulham have a bottom six worst home record. While the club are not slipping and sliding into danger zones just yet it would only take a couple of games to get there and there will be pressure from the home fans to see their team turn up and win this game given that they are playing the side in bottom place.

Sheffield United are bottom of the league and have just 1 point from their opening seven games. There is a long way to go of course but the Blades are well on course to have the worst ever record for a top flight side playing in the Premier League. It’s six defeats from seven games and their only point so far has been earned against fellow strugglers Everton. The club have lost their last three games coming into this one which has included a 2-1 defeat at Tottenham, a 8-0 thrashing against Newcastle and last weekend a 2-0 defeat at West Ham. Although it was another loss the recent one at West Ham by only two goals would have felt like a comedown from having conceded 8 in their previous game but these are very tough and difficult times for the Blades, can they find a way out of it this weekend?

Team News:

Fulham: Calvin Bassey looks set to miss out again with a back injury, Kenny Tete could be assessed, Tosin is out until the end of the month with a groin injury. Adama Traore is out with his hamstring

Sheffield United: George Baldock is expected to be back this month but this game may come too soon for him. John Egan is only 50/50 to return from his leg injury, Max Lowe and Rhys Norrington-Davies remain sidelined as does Ben Osborn. William Osula is expected not to make the cut again due to a knock. Daniel Jebbison could be assessed but may not be ready after illness, John Fleck has a lack of match fitness but could be assessed

Fulham vs Sheffield Utd Head to Head:

The clubs last faced each other in this fixture in 2021 and the game finished 1-0 to Sheffield United.

Fulham have won four of the past seven meetings against Sheffield United although the Blades have won the last two games.

There is a 60% chance to see under 2.5 goals.

Fulham vs Sheffield Utd Prediction:

We expect to see a close game because while Fulham should have their first foot forward and really present the game to Sheffield we have seen how both clubs have blown hot and cold. This could be a chance for Sheffield to win their first game of the season as the Cottagers have shown no stability and consistency and in fairness there have been the games where the Blades have come out unlucky. Not many will really believe that Sheffield are as poor as their standing has suggested and against Manchester City and Tottenham they came very close to pulling off surprise results. It's up to them to find that level again and it will take a lot of focus.

Could we see a 0-0 and would that be a terrible result for the Blades anyway, considering they are away from home? The value then may well lie with backing the away side on the double chance in a game where we believe we will see few clear cut chances and therefore the under goals market could also be an option.

Fulham vs Sheffield Utd Betting Tips:

Double Chance: Sheffield United win or draw at 2.25

Under 1.5 goals at 3.75
