England Premier League
Saturday 4th November 2023
Kick off at 12:30pm GMT
Venue: Craven Cottage
Match Preview:
Once upon a time not so very long ago this fixture would have been seen as a straightforward victory for Manchester United but the club and indeed manager Erik ten Hag find themselves under intense pressure coming into this weekend.
Let’s first take a look at Fulham who in midweek reached the quarter finals of the EFL Cup as they beat Ipswich away from home 3-1. In the league the Cottagers most common result so far has been the loss with four l`osses, three wins and three draws. Marco Silva’s side are in 14th place and have 12 points and are well on course to survive this season. This is a big weekend for clubs like Fulham because another three sides also have 12 points and a win here could move them up 4-5 places. Last weekend they pulled off a great result to draw 1-1 away to Brighton and their last home game finished in a 3-1 win over Sheffield United. Overall home form has been adequate with two wins and two defeats but then again their two wins have come against some of the poorest sides in the league in the Blades and Luton.
Manchester United were knocked out of the EFL Cup in midweek as they lost 3-0 at home to Newcastle. This has heaped pressure on Erik ten Hag following last weekend’s derby defeat in which they also lost 3-0 against Manchester City, which was also at home. Away from home the club have won six points from a possible 12 and while their trips started off in poor fashion they have at least won their last two in a row with victories coming against Burnley and Sheffield United but even these were in narrow one goal margins. The Red Devils are in 8th place and are 11 points behind the league leaders and 8 behind a top four finish and they would start to lose touch with that pack if they were to lose here.
Team News:
Fulham: Matthew-Dibley Dias is being pencilled in to return for this game after his hamstring injury but will be assessed. Tosin could also be assessed following his groin injury but is more of a doubt. Issa Diop, Kenny Tete and Adama Traore all remain out.
Manchester United: Jadon Sancho is unavailable. Amad Diallo, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw all remain sidelined.
Fulham vs Man Utd Head to Head:
Last season Manchester United won this game 2-1.
Fulham have not beaten Manchester United in 14 years.
The last five meetings in a row have all seen both teams to score.
Manchester United have won 8 of the last 10 meetings.
Fulham vs Man Utd Prediction:
It’s all a bit doom and gloom up in Manchester, at least in the red half in this campaign but playing Fulham could be the perfect tonic given the fantastic record they have over the Cottagers in the past decade. Also playing away after conceding six goals in their last two home games will surely be more welcoming for the players whose confidence has been rocked in recent weeks.
There is plenty of work for Ten Hag to do and some weeks he doesn’t seem to have a clue and others he seems to be steering the club in the right direction. But there are many problems at United given the quality they have on the field. Even when they win they haven’t been convincing and they will have to dig deep to get anything here. Fulham have blown hot and cold and we're not quite convinced by their home form but they will give United plenty of problems it will be a question if they wilt or not. We will be backing the home side on this occasion as we feel Ten Hag has lost the dressing room, and that usually signals the end, but we expect this to be a close game and both teams to score should be your main choice.
Fulham vs Man Utd Betting Tips:
Double chance (Fulham or draw) at 1.74
Both teams to score at 1.62
Correct Score: A 1-1 draw or Fulham to win 2-1 at 6.75 and 11.50
