England Premier League
Sunday 13th December 2020
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Craven Cottage
Match Preview:
What a game this is for Fulham who could be expected to not only lose but lose heavy. It has been a challenging season so far for Scott Parker’s side and one could believe that they don’t need this fixture right now.
Still you sense that Fulham have improved in recent weeks, witness the superb away win at Leicester and even last weekend when they lost away to Manchester City it was only 2-0 and no goals were scored in the second half.
At home the Cottagers have won just once and have lost 4 of their five games so far. Their last home game ended in a 3-2 defeat against Everton. The worry for Fulham is that they will get dragged down and they currently sit in 17th place and are just 1 point clear of Burnley, but Brighton are three points clear of Fulham so a little gap is appearing.
Liverpool have been getting frustrated lately and VAR has been playing a key role in sparking up manager Jurgen Klopp, you just wonder if the German coach has been getting unhinged lately? This continued in midweek against Midtjylland when the game ended 1-1, and more goals for Liverpool were chalked off it has got to the point where Klopp, a once vocal supporter for VAR is now questioning the technology.
However back to the domestic league and Liverpool are in 2nd place only on goal difference from Tottenham and last weekend they showed their superiority at home by beating Wolves 4-0. Despite injury concerns in defence Liverpool are chalking up the wins and remain one of the favourites for the league title.
But there is a concern for Klopp’s team and that is their away form, based on away form only the club would be in 16th place. They have only one away win which came against Chelsea back in September, since then they have gone 4 away games without a win, although their last 3 have all ended in draws. Liverpool’s last trip ended in a 1-1 draw against Brighton.
Team News:
Fulham: Terence Kongolo has some fitness issues and looks likely to miss out on this game. It is the same problem for Kenny Tete though he may face a late assessment.
Liverpool: Alisson is expected to return for this game after his hamstring injury. Diogo Jota has a slight knock and will be assessed. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could return from a long term knee injury he is 50/50 for this game. James Milner has made progress from injury but isn’t expected to be ready this weekend.
Fulham vs Liverpool Head to Head:
The last time the clubs met here was in 2019 when Liverpool won 2-1.
Liverpool have won the last six league meetings against Fulham.
Fulham have not beaten Liverpool at home since 2011.
Fulham vs Liverpool Prediction:
This season has seen some surprises granted and even a few weeks ago we saw Brighton hold Liverpool. But we don’t expect to see the same thing happen here and Liverpool should be able to score a few and ease to victory. If the Reds drop points away again they probably have a problem performing on the road and it could unhinge their season.
Fulham have nothing to lose in this game except many goals and the home side will defend deep and try to frustrate their opponents and that is why there may not be many goals here. But Liverpool have too much quality and we don’t expect to see anything other than a good win for the club.
