England Premier League
Wednesday 3rd February 2021
Kick off at 6pm GMT
Venue: Craven Cottage
Match Preview:
Fulham come into this game having drawn their last two in a row and last weekend was a crunch match against fellow struggler's West Bromwich Albion which ended 2-2. Whilst Fulham are in 18th position the danger signs are there and they are seven points from safety to Brighton who keep picking up points and piling the pressure on the bottom three.
Defeat in midweek for Scott Parker’s team could see them fall to 19th if West Brom beat Sheffield United and at home the Cottagers have won just one game so far. Fulham in fact have lost their last 2 games at home although this has come against quality in Chelsea and Manchester United. One of the damning facts for the club has been their lack of goals and they have scored just seven so far at home only Sheffield United with six have scored less.
Leicester’s title bid has taken a dent over the past week as they have earned just 1 point from a possible six after a draw against Everton and then defeat at home to Leeds. The Leeds loss was seen as a surprise and the Foxes lost that game 3-1 although the result seemed to sum up their season so far. Make no mistake Leicester have been brilliant at times but have dropped unexpected points also.
Leicester are in 4th place with 39 points and enjoy a 4 point safety cushion to 5th but they have slipped 5 points behind Manchester City who have a game in hand. Away from home Leicester have the 2nd best record in the league winning 23 points from 30, losing just once and winning 70% of their games.
Team News:
Fulham: Tom Cairney has a knee injury but it isn’t thought to be long term, there has been no update on his status. Terence Kongolo was being pencilled in to return for this game after his hamstring but looks a doubt for that to happen.
Leicester: Jamie Vardy has been ruled out after his hernia operation but is aiming to return for the weekend. Ndidi is out for at least 2 weeks with his hamstring. Timothy Castagne is ruled out with a hamstring and could miss 2-3 weeks. Wesley Fofana will be assessed with a tightness muscle issue.
Fulham vs Leicester Head to Head:
The teams last played this fixture in 2018 and the game ended 1-1.
Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Fulham won 2-1.
Over the last 13 years the clubs have played each other 7 times and there is a 100% success win rate to see both teams to score.
Fulham vs Leicester Prediction:
Make no mistake this is a tough fixture for Leicester and effectively a loss could end their title bid. But we have to respect the Foxes away form and they will feel a job can be done here.
One of the major worries for Leicester is their recent injuries and any club would miss the services of Jamie Vardy, Ndidi and Timothy Castagne and that is why Fulham will approach this game with confidence. In short this feels like a must win game for both sides and we should expect goals. Goals of course have been the order of the day in these fixtures and we will back both teams to score.
Fulham will not make this an easy game so there is risk involved backing the away team, and seeing as Fulham have already beaten them once this season, we feel it's best not to focus on a result outcome.
