Fulham vs Crystal Palace: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 20th May 2023
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

Fulham will just miss out on European football for next season but it has still been a very solid campaign for a club who would usually struggle in the Premier league. Their objective will be to finish in the top half of the table and coming into this weekend in 10th place they are on course for just that.

Who could have predicted that Fulham would be 8 points in front of Chelsea with just two games to go and the Cottagers would move past Brentford with a win here if the Bees were also to lose. After suffering 3 defeats in a row Marco Silva’s team have bounced back to win back to back games after defeating Leicester and Southampton and scoring seven goals in those games and one could think that the club who are now back with Aleksandar Mitrovic will be confident of winning this game.

Crystal Palace are back in 12th place with 43 points and jostling for position over Chelsea who have had a season to forget. Palace’s form was initially very strong when Roy Hodgson first returned but it has turned into a mixed bag with 7 points won from their last 15. That isn’t of course to criticise the Eagles too much because the objective was always safety, and they were able to secure that early into Hodgson’s return. Palace won their last match 2-0 over Bournemouth and away from home it’s been 10 defeats from 18 with four wins although the club have lost their last two away games after losing to Tottenham and Wolves.

Team News:

Fulham: There are no new injuries for the club but the following players are a major doubt to return this season: Daniel James, Tim Ream and Andreas Pereira.

Crystal Palace: Wilfried Zaha will be assessed but is hopeful to be fine for this game after a slight hamstring injury. Jeffrey Schlupp has a knock and will be assessed. Luka Milivojevic also has a knock and is a doubt for this game. James Tomkins is out with his calf and Nathan Ferguson has been ruled out for the season with a muscle injury.

Fulham vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

The teams last played here in 2020 and Crystal Palace won 2-1.

Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Fulham won 3-0.

Fulham have won just once in the last six meetings.

Fulham haven’t beaten Crystal Palace at home since 2005.

Fulham vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

This could be a fantastic chance for Fulham to record their first home victory over Crystal Palace in 18 years. The Cottagers are still playing to not only finish in the top half of the table but to also get one over their derby rivals Chelsea and finish ahead of them too and a win here would secure that. Mitrovic has been really missed after his 8 game suspension and that was proven right off the bat when he scored on his return and he will want to finish the season strongly and we can see him scoring again in the clubs last home game.

Crystal Palace remain a quality side but they have been lacking lately on the road and it’s a tough one to see them getting the win here especially as Fulham have found some form and at the end of the day Palace are not fighting for much now. So we see the home side edging it at the weekend.
