Fulham vs Brighton: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Tuesday 30th August 2022
Kick off at 7:30pm BST
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

It took until the 4th game of the season for newly promoted Fulham to lose their first game and one suspects that the club would have taken that before the start of the season. With the way Arsenal have been playing perhaps losing only 2-1 away from home isn’t the worst result and now the Cottagers will be returning back home where they will surely still have their early season confidence about them.

Whilst Fulham had to conceded possession to the Gunners they had quite a few chances on goal and the game looked like it was heading for a draw at one point. Fulham’s last home game finished in a 3-2 victory over Brentford and they have already drawn 2-2 against Liverpool at Craven Cottage.

Brighton are flying high in 4th place with 10 points and just two points behind the league leaders Arsenal. At the weekend the Seagulls won their 3rd game from four of the season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Leeds. Away form has already seen the club beat Manchester United and West Ham and the club could well be the surprise team of this season. There is a lot of motivation within the club to win this game too because of the way the fixtures have come out a win here would mean that for at least 24 hours Graham Potter’s side would be in 1st place. Even for a small time what an achievement that would be for a club who a few seasons ago were tasting relegation.

Team News:

Fulham: Most of the first team squad are available although Manor Soloman is out with a knee injury with no return date as of yet.

Brighton: Adam Lallana has a calf injury but could return but will be assessed first. Jeremy Sarimento will likely miss out again as he recovers from his knee injury but could be back next weekend. Jakub Moder is out long term with a knee injury.

Fulham vs Brighton Prediction:

There’s no doubt that Fulham have been impressive so far, they have a lot of fight in them and if they can keep this up they won’t be going down this season, even if they are one of the favourites to do so. At home the club have done well and scored 5 goals in just two games, they could well be a real force here. However the Cottagers have a real test on their hands for this game.

Graham Potter’s side are playing good football and even though their record here isn’t the best recently they have the motivation to be in 1st place in the Premier League and of course they are scoring goals too. The only points dropped so far for the Seagulls is when they drew 0-0 at home to Newcastle who of course are a side who can score plenty of goals on their day, so keeping a clean sheet was impressive. Indeed on the issue of that Brighton has the best defensive record in the league coming into these batch of games and has only conceded once, on the opening weekend of the season.

We expect to see a real battle here and manager Potter will learn more of his team because even if they are better equipped than their hosts to win here their hosts will feel they have little to lose and will go for it.
