Fulham vs Brentford: Preview & Prediction

England Premier League
Saturday 20th August 2022
Kick off at 3pm BST
Venue: Craven Cottage

Match Preview:

Fulham have started the Premier League season fairly well and they come into this 3rd game unbeaten so far. However the Cottagers have yet to win, although achieving a 2-2 draw against Liverpool in their opening game would have felt like one. Fulham manager Marco Silva would have settled for 2 points in the clubs opening two games and the club followed up their draw with Liverpool with another one away to Wolves, that game finished 0-0.

Even the draw against Wolves was a successful result for Silva’s team given how good Wolves can be at home and arguably the Cottagers were the better side and were unlucky not to win after missing a penalty. They will be happy to return back home.

The fear for Brentford this season is that after having a solid last campaign perhaps this one would strip the club naked and they would struggle- so far though that isn’t the case. The Bees were the talk of the Premier League last weekend as they throttled Manchester United 4-0, all four goals came in the first half. Following the clubs 2-2 draw away to Leicester it means that they head into this weekend in 3rd place with 6 goals and just two conceded, not many fans would have expected that return from the fixtures they had. With the right result here it would be possible that for a few hours at least the Bees would be top of the league, so the players will be very motivated for the win.

Team News:

Fulham: Joe Bryan has a broken hand and is 50/50 to return for this game. Bobby DeCordova-Reid has a knock but is being tipped to be fine. Andreas Pereira will be assessed for his knock and Manor Soloman will be out long term with a knee injury.

Brentford: Kristoffer Ajer is nearing a return from a hamstring injury but looks set to miss out, but could return by the end of the month. Sergi Canos is still touch and go with a hamstring injury. Ethan Pinnock is out long term with his knee.

Fulham vs Brentford Head to Head:

The last time the clubs played each other was almost two years ago in the Carabao Cup which Brentford, who were at home, won 3-0.

Brentford also won the last time they played Fulham away with a 2-0 victory.

In the last 7 meetings Fulham has just one victory over Brentford.

Fulham vs Brentford Prediction:

Fulham have looked decent early on but the reality is that they will probably struggle once the season really gets going and the winter months roll on. But everything is good news at this present time. The Cottagers will be looking to make their home ground difficult for any opponent as one could presume this is where the majority of their points will come from, so they will go for it here, after all they scored two goals against Liverpool so why not?

Brentford have surprised after losing Christian Eriksen and they are a club who create many chances. There really isn’t anything between these teams quality wise and the prices on whoever wins are really good value. Despite their fantastic win over Manchester United that doesn’t mean that playing Fulham will be easy and what these two sides will have in common this season is yo-yo form. It should be a close and at times physical game but we will back Fulham being the home side and who for now are playing good football and enjoying their game.
